Books and the Secret Room

"I've been here before. This place is so lifeless... Most humans don't want to come anywhere near this neighborhood."

When the car stopped in front of the charred house, Anna wore a look of disgust. She did not particularly like this place. After all, from a parasite's perspective, densely populated areas were more suitable for selecting hosts, while in such a remote area, a parasite could not survive.

As Anna got out of the car, she suddenly sensed an inexplicable danger and the feeling of being watched.

Anna's keen senses as a parasite made her turn her gaze toward an iron window in the corner of the house.

"Creak, creak, creak!" came the sound of bones twisting.

Suddenly, half of a pale woman's face pressed against the window. Her wide, bulging eyes stared blankly at the unfamiliar Anna.

A Yin cold feeling swept through Anna's entire body. Even as a parasite, she felt gooseflesh rise all over her skin as fear spread through her.

"Ah..."

Perhaps because her transformation had made her more like a human, Anna let out a frightened scream and stumbled back a step.

"I didn't expect you to get scared too. This is Kayako, whom I mentioned to you earlier—the third member of the team." As he introduced her, Yu Jing pushed open the door of the burned-down house.

After resting for an entire day, Kayako had completely recovered from her injuries. Sensing Yu Jing and the others approaching, she had just crawled excitedly out of the basement.

As Yu Jing entered the house, Kayako quickly climbed onto his back and wrapped both arms tightly around his neck.

"Easy, easy. You need to get over that occupational habit of yours..." Yu Jing felt his throat being constricted and lightly patted Kayako's cold arm with his palm.
