This really was no time to study it.
They had finally made it inside the Wizard Tower, and there was no telling what would happen next. Their priority was to explore as much as possible and find out what was here. With no time to waste, Soren signaled the others and led the way toward the second floor. As a top-tier Rogue with three Mage Maidens in the party, he had no choice but to take point.
That was hardly a problem. Soren might be a Rogue on paper, but in practice, he was a Berserker.
"Careful!"
The second floor of the Wizard Tower was pitch-black. As soon as he entered, he raised a hand to stop the three women behind him. "There's a trap here," he said grimly.
The inside of a Wizard Tower was dangerous.
Most Wizards set deadly triggered Spell Traps in their towers. One might unleash Disintegrate, another Finger of Death. Nobody wanted to test whether their Saving Throws were good enough.

Soren crept toward the trap. As a Deity who held the Rogue Portfolio, his trap-disarming skill had passed 150 without much practice. The Portfolio's power let him handle most traps with ease. But just as he disabled the trigger on the floor, a dense fluttering sound rose from somewhere on the second floor.
"Magical Bats!"
Goria seemed to recognize the sound. Her expression turned grave. "A lot of Magical Bats!"
Magical Bats.
They were among the creatures Wizards summoned most often. They could guard a tower, serve as experimental subjects, or provide spellcasting materials. A Magical Bat was not particularly hard to deal with; its Challenge Rating was around three. None of them would have much trouble with one.
When there were enough of them, though, they could become a nuisance.
