Souls were the most precious wealth of all!
To mortals, many ores, gems, and materials common in the Lower Planes were worth a fortune. But to many creatures of the Lower Planes, those things were worthless. The souls of mortals from the Material Plane were the true prize. The planes valued things differently, and devils could always find plenty of ways to lure a mortal into damnation.
The temptation of devils was not so easy to resist!
Soren closed his eyes and sensed everything within Falling Leaf City, trying to identify which Archdevil had made a move against it.
Unfortunately, he found almost nothing. The Archdevil had hidden deep, and its minions had yet to fully reveal themselves. That was what made devils so infuriating. They loved weaving schemes in dark corners and rarely faced their enemies head-on unless battle was unavoidable.
Soren now had two choices.
The first was to purge Falling Leaf City of its dark forces and take complete control of it.
But that meant going to war with an Evil God whose identity he did not know, while also dealing with a powerful devil.
Both had already set their sights on Falling Leaf City.
If Soren acted, they would see him as a rival fighting them for their prey.
Falling Leaf City had rotted.
Its deeply rooted order was not to Soren's liking, and he had no wish to accept it. The city's traditions, rules, and nobility had been ingrained over centuries of rule. Changing them would take too much time and effort. Even if he gained control of it all, he would still have to face the worsening Time of Troubles. When demons ran rampant and the Gods went berserk, he would scarcely be able to spare Falling Leaf City a thought.
