When the demon army receded like a tide, pouring frantically toward the Abyssal Gate, cheers of victory finally rang out.
The reinforcements from Port Nyanzaru began silently clearing the battlefield. As some of the first people to face the demons, a victory like this no longer meant much to them. This was already the second Abyssal Portal to open in Wind Spear Hills. A vast stretch of plains, Wind Spear Hills covered an area almost the size of a province. During the second wave of impact in the Time of Troubles, that much territory meant they might face more than one wave of demon attacks.
Soren had made extensive preparations for the second wave.
Port Nyanzaru's defenses were naturally beyond question, but Wind Spear Hills still needed more support. Not only had he dispatched troops, he had also sought help from the Holy Avengers, who owed him a favor. The Northern Witches Council had offered assistance as well. With their enormous Mythal, they were probably the best equipped to handle the second wave of impact, able to wipe out a whole batch straight from the sky. After all, the [Eye of the North] was a high-tier legendary witch capable of casting Meteor Swarm.
If a demon army appeared, a single Meteor Swarm would kill almost all of them.
There was nothing he could do for the other regions. Everyone could only fend for themselves; the second wave of impact in the Time of Troubles had always erupted everywhere at once. Soren remembered at least twenty cities being destroyed back then. Even with his intervention now, the losses would probably still be devastating.
The warriors from Port Nyanzaru began assembling.
