The fiends' rout became an unstoppable torrent.
Most fiends from the Lower Planes would do nothing without something to gain, especially yugoloths and night hags, who cared above all about their own interests. Their attack on Port Nyanzaru had not brought them enough rewards or mortal souls to harvest. Instead, they had suffered devastating losses, and many of their companions had already been killed. Under these circumstances, they had no will to keep fighting. Fiends could never match the vast forces of demons and devils, and some had lost the foundations of their power. Who knew how many years they would need to recover?
They had already decided to abandon this place.
Even if they still intended to attack the Material Plane, few would probably be willing to invade Port Nyanzaru Island again.
"The fiends have retreated."
"Should we seal the portal and wipe them all out?!"
The Fallen Witch looked eager to try, because fiends killed after entering the Material Plane could leave behind soul gems. This was a characteristic of creatures from the Lower Planes: their bodies were formed from twisted souls in the first place. These soul gems were enormously useful to the Fallen Witch, especially since she had recently been planning to delve deeper into her research on an important component of floating cities—[arcane golems]!
These were more powerful golems that could even cast spells.
Other golems, whether stone golems, iron golems, or adamantite golems, possessed formidable melee capabilities.
But arcane golems were different. They not only had powerful melee capabilities, but could also cast certain spells, which placed even greater demands on the soul gems used to create them.
As for tower spirits and the Magical Energy Power Device, the requirements for making them were higher still.
