Ding Ling examined Cao Chong's bones and pulse.
He checked him carefully.
After pondering for a long while, he said:
"Cao Chong's pulse has been suppressed by a force."
"What kind of force?"
Cao Mengde looked tense.
"Can he be saved?"
"He can."
"Phew."
Relief washed over Cao Mengde's face. Beaming, he pulled Cao Chong forward and bowed deeply to Ding Ling.
"I knew the Upper God could do it! And I was right. Chong, quickly, thank the Upper God for saving your life."
Ding Ling had not even begun treating him, yet they were already thanking him.
Cao Chong was a quick-witted child. He immediately bowed to Ding Ling with an obedient smile.
"Thank you, Upper God. Thank you!"
Though still young, he had a clever mind and a sweet tongue. His eyes shone with intelligence; anyone could see he was an exceptionally bright boy.
What made him even more striking was the unusual energy enveloping him from head to toe. He looked like an immortal flower on the verge of blooming, a sight that drew every eye.
That same energy was the reason his life would be cut short.
When Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjing heard Ding Ling had arrived, they immediately dropped what they were doing and hurried to Cao Chong. As divine physicians granted special permission by Cao Mengde, they could come and go freely.
They arrived just as Cao Chong finished his bow.
After paying their respects to Cao Mengde and Ding Ling, they asked about the situation.
Cao Mengde explained it to them with delight.
Hua Tuo and Zhang Zhongjing exchanged a glance. Both saw shock and pride in the other's eyes.
They were shocked that Ding Ling had only just returned, yet had already understood an illness that had baffled them for years.
