Background

Jiang Jingyi inherited the throne of the Heavenly Profound Dynasty from the Literary Emperor. Her succession was contested: Jiang Zhenqing believed the throne should have been his, while Jiang Jingyi maintained that their father chose her because of Zhenqing's temperament and fortune. She ultimately established herself as the Female Emperor through the imperial struggle. 1819 1971

She has ruled for over a thousand years and regards the dynasty's stability as a responsibility that outweighs personal ties. Her rule includes managing the Jiang Imperial Clan's fortune, restraining ambitious royal relatives, and preparing against threats from the Heavenly Action Continent. 673 1370 1820

To investigate affairs beyond the palace, Jiang Jingyi traveled incognito under the identity Murong Yi, presenting herself as a Murong-family woman and female official. Her disguise allowed her to observe Lin Heng, the Immortal Alliance, and the competing noble factions without immediately invoking the authority of the throne. 625 1005 1006

Her concealed identity was publicly exposed at Heavenly Prosperity Hall, where she removed her veil and announced herself as Jiang Jingyi, the Female Emperor. 1327

Appearance

Jiang Jingyi is consistently described as a peerless, coldly elegant beauty whose bearing carries both imperial authority and distance. In public as the Female Emperor, she wears phoenix and dragon regalia; as Murong Yi, she adopts understated but refined clothing. 1242 1271 1327

  • Cold, gorgeous features and an imposing imperial presence. 1242
  • Often wears red phoenix robes and dragon garments when appearing as the Female Emperor. 1327
  • Uses white, ink-black, or otherwise elegant dresses while traveling as Lady Yi. 625 1271
  • Her presence and cultivation can create pressure even when her displayed realm appears much lower. 1192

Personality

Jiang Jingyi is strategic, politically calculating, and highly conscious of the balance of power. She prefers creating checks and balances over open chaos, whether among noble families, the Immortal Alliance, or Lin Heng's Inner Court. 638 1114

As ruler, she can be decisive and ruthless. She reprimands ineffective princes, confronts rebellious subordinates, and is willing to demand that Jiang Zhenqing cripple his cultivation after he colludes with her enemies and attempts to usurp her. 1279 1820

Despite her severity, Jiang Jingyi is not entirely detached. She values Jiang Yan precisely because his straightforward nature lets her relax, protects Lin Heng against political threats, and is visibly shaken by the loss of her father. 638 1358 2006

Her long life and palace confinement also leave her bored and curious about unconventional people. This initially motivates her to indulge Lin Heng's behavior while disguised as Murong Yi; over time, amusement, political calculation, admiration, and affection become increasingly intertwined. 697 1124 1315
