Chapter 770

Because of the war, business at the Frog Croak Town tavern was rather slow.

Only a sparse handful of customers sat drinking there today, and young people were especially rare. After all, with a certain special guest around, coming here was no different from walking into a tiger's den.

Neilson was that special guest. As one of Grand Duke Giles's subordinates, he had recently been assigned a fairly important job—recruitment. With the heavy losses suffered in the past few battles, Neilson's work had become especially important.

His purpose in coming to Frog Croak Town wasn't to recruit from its residents. The Blood Tax from several lords in the southern territories was about to arrive, and he had come to receive the new recruits. Still, if he happened to take a fancy to any strong young men along the way, he wouldn't mind adding them to the ranks as well.

Mr. Neilson wouldn't let work interfere with his enjoyment. Early in the morning, he kicked open the door of the Frog Croak Town tavern and ordered the owner to bring him a large glass of every kind of liquor they had. Since he was waiting for people anyway, what was wrong with savoring fine wine while he waited? Besides, with the journey so far, it was entirely possible for the new recruits to be delayed by a day or two.

He had his attendant stand at the entrance and watch the road while he got started inside, drinking himself into a stupor.

"B-Boss... bring me... bring me five more cups of this-this-this..." Neilson pointed with a trembling finger at the third cup in the row before him and mumbled incoherently.

The tavern owner asked carefully and obsequiously, "Five cups of Dragon Flame?"

"Y-Yes... hic! Five cups of Dragon Flame!"
