He paced back and forth across the floor, waving his cape. His heavy boots struck the ground with loud thuds. To everyone listening, it felt as though a giant hammer were pounding fiercely against their hearts.

"We have already suffered one shameful defeat at Illusion Wing Fort! We absolutely cannot suffer another humiliation at Eagle Beak Pass!"

Giles shouted, "In the name of the supreme ruler of Aldo's southern territory, I swear that I will defeat Rhodesney's army here."

With a clang, he drew the sword at his waist. "I will..."

Just as the subordinates prepared to hear their lord's rousing speech, another rumble like muffled thunder sounded outside.

The Kingdom Army was shelling them again.

The sudden cannon fire interrupted Giles. Much of his momentum vanished, and when he tried to continue addressing everyone, he found that he had somehow forgotten what he had been about to say.

He angrily shoved his sword back into its sheath.

"Your Grace!" An officer hurriedly tried to rush into the room, but the guards at the door stopped him, leaving him no choice but to shout from outside.

"Let him in!"

After receiving Giles's permission, the officer entered, panting.

"What are you panicking about? Has the enemy launched another assault?" Giles demanded.

"They haven't attacked the pass! But... after
