Background / History
Yukina is the only daughter of Sony founder and president Akiyama Kazuo. As his health declined, she began assuming responsibility for the family-run game company, first as vice president and effectively as its day-to-day leader. Sony was simultaneously facing aggressive competition from companies backed by the Neon Silver Merchant Consortium, leaving Yukina to confront a potential console-launch crisis with little leadership experience. 124 125
Her father had shaped much of her life: she respected him deeply, changed from her preferred field to business at his instruction, and accepted the burden of Sony’s leadership without hesitation. This obedience later led Kazuo to question whether he had ever considered whether she was truly suited to corporate leadership. 353
Appearance
Yukina is a young, beautiful Japanese woman around Wu Wei’s age, with a small frame, fair complexion, and dark eyes. 125 127 336
- Often presents herself with a sweet, polite smile in formal meetings. 127
- Her Mandarin is notably fluent after spending time studying in China. 127
- During Sony’s internal crisis, exhaustion becomes visible: her jawline thins, her eye sockets appear sunken, and concealer and glasses fail to hide her dark circles. 336
Personality
Yukina is earnest, dutiful, and highly respectful of her father. She takes Sony’s crisis personally and tries to meet the expectations placed upon her despite feeling overwhelmed by the scale of the company and her own inexperience. 125 353
She has a genuine love of games and a sharp appreciation for artistic game design. Sekiro’s trailer leaves her deeply impressed by its historical setting, cinematography, and depiction of the Sengoku era; she recognizes it as a work capable of transforming Sony’s position in the market. 130 132
Although academically accomplished, Yukina initially struggles with independent corporate judgment. She is vulnerable to pressure from Sony’s board and Heijing Jirou’s advice, ultimately approving measures against Platinum Studio that she later regrets. 334 353 After the resulting crisis, she accepts responsibility rather than resisting the consequences, and eventually finds relief in leaving a leadership role that did not suit her. 354
Following her father’s decline, Yukina matures into a calmer and more resilient person. She learns to manage practical affairs, cares for Kazuo herself, and later pursues art rather than continuing in business. 509 511

Story Role / Major Arcs
PS5 and Platinum Studio Partnership
As Sony faces a shortage of major launch titles, Yukina seeks out Platinum Studio and Wu Wei in China. Though initially flustered by Wu Wei’s forceful negotiating style, she recognizes the value of Sekiro and approves the partnership despite substantial board resistance. The resulting promotion revives public interest in PS5 and helps Sony regain momentum. 127 132 135

Platinum Share Reduction Crisis
With Kazuo incapacitated and Sony’s board pushing for Sakurajima Studio’s inclusion, Yukina accepts a plan to reduce Platinum Studio’s promotional share. Unable to reveal Sony’s internal pressures to Wu Wei, she damages their relationship and becomes increasingly exhausted under the weight of the decision. 323 334 336
Wu Wei confronts Yukina privately, learns of Kazuo’s terminal illness, and reminds her of his earlier warning against accepting radical internal proposals. She realizes that her father’s illness and her own confusion caused her to overlook the danger around Sony. 337 338
Demotion and New Direction
After the board’s scheme is exposed, Kazuo harshly reprimands Yukina for failing to honor Sony’s relationship with Platinum. He acknowledges that he imposed corporate leadership on her without considering her own wishes. 353
Yukina is removed as Executive Director and becomes an honorary director without board authority. While Kazuo divides his shares between her and Wu Wei, Wu Wei becomes Sony’s largest shareholder and new owner. Yukina accepts the decision with relief, apologizes to Wu Wei, and accompanies her father to the United States. 354
Kazuo’s Final Days
In San Francisco, Yukina takes care of Kazuo and grows into a composed, capable adult. After he dies, she handles the funeral arrangements with restraint before finally expressing her grief at his coffin and recalling his childhood care for her. 509 511 514
