Organization and Teachings

History

Tongtian's Jie Sect was already established as a major Sage sect when he began receiving guidance and resources from Wang Yuan. Tongtian's reputation for accepting disciples without discrimination allowed the sect to gather a broad and unusually diverse membership. 3 271

Before the Investiture of the Gods conflict fully escalated, the sect expanded its influence and recruited powerful figures. Bai Ze brought Ji Meng, Ying Zhao, Kong Xuan, and Lu Ya into the sect, while Tongtian later accepted Yang Jian, Yuan Hong, and the Seven Fiends of Plum Mountain. 61 186 303

The Jie Sect aligned itself with Yin Shang, while the Chan Sect supported Xi Qi. Because Yin Shang's national fortune was tied to the Jie Sect's fortune, the fall of the dynasty threatened to severely damage the sect itself. 142 147 Tongtian also maintained covert agents within enemy territory: Hong Lie and Jiang Ziya monitored Chan Sect activity, while Shen Gongbao was exposed as an Intercept Sect mole. 310 402

During the fighting around SiShui Pass and Xi Qi City, the sect repeatedly used its numerical advantage, elite disciples, sword formations, and undercover intelligence. Tongtian initially stayed behind the front lines to avoid drawing the allied Sages into a direct confrontation, while Do Bao, Turtle Spirit, Wudang, Zhao Gongming, the Three Heavens, Yang Jian, Ao Bing, and others led the visible forces. 411

The sect suffered its first major defeat when the Chan Sect deployed Dragon Clan forces as expendable assault troops. Do Bao led a retreat, but the pressure of the Chan Sect, Western Sect, and Dragon Clan alliance inflicted severe losses. 455 The Jie Sect nevertheless continued to resist fiercely despite being outnumbered, with Do Bao fighting the White Dragon and the disciples counterattacking under his leadership. 473 477

At Kunlun Mountain, Tongtian deployed the Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation against Yuanshi, Taishang, Jie Yin, and Zhun Ti. Taishang used One Qi Transforms into Three Purities to remove the formation's four divine swords, breaking the formation and shifting the battle decisively against the Jie Sect. 517 518 519 Tongtian later returned despite severe injuries to rescue the remaining disciples from Yuanshi. 546 548

Aftermath

• Zhun Ti selected five of the Seven Attending Immortals for the Western Sect, while Taishang took Do Bao away. 548
