Jade Bone 114 Identified as a Jade Bone: a living evil ghost and Walking Corpse from birth. Her condition prevents ordinary martial-arts cultivation.
At the threshold of Third Rank 216 Her innate Jade Bone constitution leaves her naturally at the threshold of the Heavenly Soul’s Third Rank.
Third-Rank Heavenly Soul / old locust tree avatar 221 222 Cultivates through a Third-Rank locust-tree body whose qi roots draw nutrients from underground; this body requires continual energy and experiences hunger.
Multiple Heavenly Soul incarnations 224 252 One locust-tree incarnation became four, while later thirty-six Heavenly Soul Xiao Shengs took part in battle; an ice-and-snow incarnation was the sole survivor.

Background

Xiao Sheng is the daughter of Li Yuan and Yan Yu. During Yan Yu’s pregnancy, Feng Er’s unusually dense yin energy affected the unborn child, producing an innate mutation that made Xiao Sheng a Jade Bone. She also inherited part of Li Yuan’s peculiar bird-taming aptitude, giving her an affinity for crows and abilities resembling those of Walking Corpses. 116

Her condition made her dangerous to expose. Martial artists could view her as a future calamity or valuable specimen, while Walking Corpses might treat her as a treasure to exploit or dissect. Li Yuan and Yan Yu therefore concealed her nature and recalled her crows whenever outsiders might notice them. 114

As a child, Xiao Sheng suffered a severe reaction after Li Yuan used the Gray Rouge Box, becoming ice-cold, convulsing, and unable to wake. Afterward, she became emotionally dependent on sleeping near her parents and Xiao Ping An. 114

Appearance

Xiao Sheng is initially described as a delicate, doll-like girl with pale skin, glassy white eyes without visible pupils, and unusually black hair. As she grows, her appearance becomes increasingly associated with coldness, crows, and yin energy. 104 126 162

  • Eyes — glazed, jade-white eyes that identify her as a Jade Bone. 104 114
  • Hair — deep black hair in which she can contain crows; prolonged viewing causes discomfort to those with strong yang qi. 126
  • Complexion — pale, crystalline skin likened to ice and snow. 162 252
  • Usual attire — often carries a cane and conceals herself beneath a veiled bamboo hat when traveling as the Little Saintess. 126 163
  • Heavenly Soul transformation — while absorbing an ancient evil soul, she develops tiger-like fangs, a leopard-like tail, and disheveled hair. 291

Personality

Xiao Sheng begins as a quiet, obedient child who rarely cries or fusses, though she is easily frightened when her mother’s anxiety affects her. She is affectionate toward her father, attached to her family, and especially fond of teasing Xiao Ping An for crying. 105 114 126

Years spent in the Ghost Domain leave her socially anxious and withdrawn. Exposure to Tang Sect affairs, travel, rumors surrounding the Little Saintess, and friendships with other disciples gradually help her enjoy interacting with people. 156 162 163 169

Despite her frightening powers, Xiao Sheng prefers kindness and initially promises Li Yuan that she will not hurt people. She shows little interest in becoming “the strongest,” seeking cultivation methods primarily to help her father. 128 221 Her loyalty becomes uncompromising after Li Yuan is believed dead; she refuses to cooperate with Meng Xingxian because she holds her responsible. 252

Abilities & Skills

Jade Bone Constitution

Xiao Sheng was born as a Jade Bone, a being associated with yin energy, Walking Corpses, and evil ghosts. 114 116

  • Is naturally unable to cultivate conventional martial-arts techniques. 156
  • Possesses an unusually fragile physical body despite her broader supernatural power. 266
  • Her innate nature places her at the threshold of Heavenly Soul Third Rank. 216
  • Her lifespan can be sustained through a connection to a Ghost Domain or other yin-energy sources. 156

Crow Control and Shared Vision

Xiao Sheng controls vast numbers of crows, which function as extensions of her senses and authority. Her bird affinity derives partly from Li Yuan’s Beast Taming Art and her connection to Feng Er. 116 211

  • Presses crows into her hair to contain yin qi and gain additional strength. 126
  • Uses individual crows as eyes, allowing her to observe distant locations through tens or hundreds of thousands of viewpoints. 126 211
  • Commands crow swarms large enough to flood the Gods’ Graveyard and search thousands of suspended coffins. 211
  • Uses crows to maintain an intelligence network across Great Zhou and report political developments to Li Yuan. 247 268
  • If Xiao Sheng dies, her crows disappear; she therefore remains where her power is greatest when possible. 266

Heavenly Soul and Locust-Tree Avatars

Xiao Sheng can cultivate and act through Third-Rank old locust-tree bodies, including the entity called Tree Granny. 221 222 249

  • Her tree avatars extend qi roots underground to draw nutrients and sustain themselves. 222
  • One avatar multiplied into four, and she later manifested numerous Heavenly Soul incarnations. 224 252
  • Tree Granny can produce dense roots that form cages and drag captured targets underground. 249
  • Her cane can manifest aerial roots and vine-like “tentacles” to disarm and bind opponents. 242
  • Her transformed bodies still require energy; greater power does not remove hunger. 222

Heavenly Soul Formation Methods

Gods’ Graveyard provides Xiao Sheng with Heavenly Soul cultivation teachings due to her exceptional aptitude. 215 221

  • Learns the Heavenly Soul Grand Formation. 247
  • Learns the Low-Grade Flesh Field Fission Method. 247
  • Requires sufficient yang qi, including Heavenly Fire Spirit Stones, to continue advancing beyond certain Heavenly Soul stages. 224

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Cane — used in childhood duels and later as a focus for aerial roots and binding vines. 126 242
  • Veiled bamboo hat — used to conceal her identity while accompanying Tang Sect representatives. 163
  • Crow flock — her primary means of surveillance, communication, movement of influence, and combat support. 211 247

Relationships

  • Li Yuan — father. Xiao Sheng relies on him deeply, serves as his intelligence source, and fiercely resents those she believes caused his death. 114 247 252
  • Yan Yu — mother. Yan Yu protects Xiao Sheng’s identity, worries over her frailty, and seeks ways to preserve her lifespan through yin energy. 114 156
  • Xiao Ping An — younger brother. Xiao Sheng often outmaneuvers him in play fights and calls him a crybaby, though she worries about him when they are separated. 126 144 156
  • Tang Nian — adopted elder sister. Tang Nian helps Xiao Sheng enter the wider world through Tang Sect affairs and teases her about a disciple’s love letter. 128 163 169
  • Feng Er — indirect source of Xiao Sheng’s Jade Bone mutation; Xiao Sheng shares a special yin-based connection with her. 116 156
  • Xue Ning — “Second Mother” and teacher in practical management; Xiao Sheng later studies merchant-association management and leadership under her. 144 177
  • Yao Jue — painting teacher and affectionate family companion. 144 185 259
  • Meng Xingxian — adversarial figure whom Xiao Sheng refuses to aid after holding her responsible for Li Yuan’s apparent death. 252
