Appearance
Xie Yu is first introduced as a fiery young woman in red, with peach-blossom eyes, a lively smile, and two playful dimples. Her manner of dress is bold, often emphasizing her red garments and snowy legs; she later appears in white while cultivating and in red as a sword-bearing martial wanderer. 194 223 297
- Long dark hair, sometimes still damp after bathing. 194
- Bright red lips and an expressive, youthful face. 194
- Her later sect portrait depicts her as a red-clad beauty holding a sword, with a cold and lofty bearing. 297
Personality
Xie Yu is intensely particular about cleanliness. She bathes several times daily, cannot tolerate the smell of sweat, and once harshly rebuked a maid over a trace of moisture left in a washed bowl. 194
She is impulsive, proud, and openly dismissive of restrictive etiquette. When she first met the disguised Li Yuan, she ignored the conventions governing an unmarried noblewoman because she was immediately drawn to his appearance and apparent strength. Her ideal husband had to be capable, handsome, attentive, and clean. 194
Beneath her spirited exterior, Xie Yu is emotionally direct and deeply loyal. She could accept hardship and follow Ximen Gucheng across the martial world, but could not accept learning that the identity and life she loved had been founded on deception. Her lasting obsession is the sword, which she regards as carrying too much of her emotion to abandon. 247 305

History
Xie Clan Third Miss
Xie Yu was the third daughter of Xie Jianan, the Xie Clan head and Regional Commander, and the younger sister of Xie Wei. At twenty years old, she had already reached Sixth Rank when her father began seeking a powerful, high-potential husband willing to marry into the Xie Clan. 193 194
Her father intended to use her marriage to secure an additional path of support for the clan, while excluding candidates from the Five Elements Buddhist Way, the Lotus Cult, military command, and other Regional Commander families. Xie Yu, however, cared far more about whether a prospective husband suited her personal standards. 194
Marriage to Ximen Gucheng
Li Yuan approached the Xie Clan under the identity of the white-robed Fifth-Rank swordsman Ximen Gucheng. His carefully constructed persona—handsome, powerful, aloof, battle-obsessed, and obsessed with cleanliness—was tailored to attract Xie Yu. 194
Xie Yu was captivated at first sight and disregarded the usual restrictions on contact between an unmarried woman and a potential husband. She became his wife, but soon found herself frustrated by his fixation on cultivation and repeated seclusions. She nevertheless tried to understand his theory of “Honing the Soul with Skill” and waited for him despite their unconsummated marriage. 194 196
Separation and Fifth-Rank Breakthrough
After the destruction of the Xie Clan became imminent, Li Yuan took Xie Yu away rather than return her to Xie Residence. The two traveled the martial world under assumed identities, but Xie Yu increasingly suffered from his secrecy and absences. 224 229
She eventually told him they should separate, recognizing that he required freedom and solitary cultivation while she could not understand the powers he pursued. 224 While living in Silver Stream Village, she broke through to Fifth Rank and consolidated the realm. 236
Li Zhen and the Broken Marriage
Xie Yu later gave birth to a daughter, Li Zhen. By then, the accumulating inconsistencies surrounding Ximen Gucheng, Li Yuan, the Son of Heaven, and Xie Wei had led her to uncover the truth: the man she loved had concealed his identity from the beginning. 247 249
Unable to accept that deception, she severed their marriage in all but parental responsibility. She allowed Li Yuan to see their daughter, but declared that “Little Yu'er” and “Ximen Gucheng” were both dead. 249
Heavenly Wind Sect Founder and Rebirth
At some point after leaving Li Yuan, Xie Yu became the founder commemorated by the Heavenly Wind Sect as the Red-Clad Sword Immortal. Her tomb was hidden deep within Tianheng Mountain, which is why Li Yuan could not find her despite searching for her across the region. 297
After her death, Xie Yu passed through the Incineration Furnace intact and was reborn into the Liu Family as Liu Long. Retaining memories of her previous life, she sought answers from Tang Nian and later returned to Tianheng Mountain, where she found graves marked for both herself and “Li Clan Ancestor Gu Cheng.” Believing Li Yuan had truly died, she finally released much of the resentment she had carried. 305
Reunion and Transcendence
Xie Yu eventually reunited with Li Yuan at HengWu Tavern after years of longing. Their reunion allowed the grievances of her previous life to begin fading. 311 312
Li Yuan later disclosed the Life Star Technique and entrusted its secret to her alone. He guided her through Fengchan and the cultivation of Mountain and River Qi, enabling her to pursue transcendence through her lifelong sword obsession. 313
When Heavenly Wind Sect elders later recognized her, they knelt and acknowledged her as their ancestor. Her newly attained extraordinary power made her a central pillar for the sect’s faction and for the surrendering forces of the Divine Kingdom. 317
Relationships

- Xie Feng — Her elder brother and the Xie Clan’s military support. 195 197
