Back at the fleet base, he had handed it over so readily partly to keep up the brotherly act, but mostly to lull Minkler into risking his life to buy time and hold off the Soekarno Family's counterattack.

That little bit could activate the Family God once at most. Besides, Boggio had Holy Oil of his own. Even if Minkler tried to turn traitor, he could easily suppress him.

He had bought the time. The Soekarno Family had counterattacked, their attack had been held off... Someone had even given his life for it.

The broad strokes had followed his plan exactly. The details, however, were all wrong.

And now the Holy Oil had landed in the hands of this counterfeit Minkler!

The instant his Spiritual Substance intensified, the Fire of Embers blazed up inside the bottle and ignited the Holy Oil. Wisps of smoke rose from it.

Behind Ji Jue, the Family God's centipede-like limbs coiled upward. Hideous faces emerged along them, greedily inhaling the smoke, intoxicated and frenzied.

They convulsed violently, like addicts in withdrawal. When those faces opened their eyes again, they shone with the same radiance as Ji Jue's!
