Background / History
Gilgamesh is a composite Heroic Spirit rather than solely his Archer-class or younger self. Before freely traveling through the Chat Group, he had grown weary of remaining in the Throne of Heroes, a place without time or space. 61 76
After joining the Chat Group, he spent points to reinforce the Chain of Heaven into a growth-type weapon. The chain is a memento of Enkidu, his sole close friend, and Gilgamesh reflects on Enkidu while holding it. 44
During the Seventh Singularity mission, Gilgamesh returns to Uruk alongside the group. His arrival places him face-to-face with the living King Gilgamesh of that era—another version of himself—while Uruk faces the Three Goddess Alliance and Tiamat's awakening. 140 143
The Uruk-era King governs personally during the crisis, issuing military orders while also arranging support for a subordinate's family and granting leave. He later activates Divine Authority Seals at the cost of his life force to defend the city. 141 150
After Uruk survives, the era's Gilgamesh apologizes to Tiamat on humanity's behalf, accepting that the Age of Gods has ended. He remains on his throne until his death, with Siduri mourning beside him. 162 163
In a later Uruk incident, Gilgamesh secretly exchanges mental bodies with a member of the Great Race of Is. Realizing that his confidence had endangered Uruk, he accepts Izayoi's Hounds of Tindalos Contract Voucher and apologizes to him. 239 242 243
Personality
Gilgamesh is intensely proud, confrontational, and territorial. He demands respect for his status as King, particularly within Uruk, and responds to provocation with overwhelming force. He also enjoys the fear and excitement of meeting an opponent whose strength he cannot immediately judge. 140 142
His arrogance does not prevent him from recognizing genuine strength. He acknowledges that Izayoi would defeat him even if their raw strength were equal, and he admits that a king is not invincible. 97 187
At critical moments, Gilgamesh is dependable and compassionate. His arrogance fades when facing suffering civilians, and his conduct as Uruk's ruler is diligent, practical, and attentive to his subjects' lives. 61 141
His attachment to Enkidu remains one of his defining vulnerabilities. He speaks of Enkidu with pride and nostalgia, considering him the only person worthy to stand at his side as his greatest assistant and closest friend. 260
