The Underground City

Third New Tokyo was a standard fortress city, built almost entirely for military use and defense.

The first through seventh districts on the surface could all descend underground when necessary. Many buildings had also been modified internally to serve as EVA launch shafts, and numerous combat and interception fortifications could rise from below, replacing civilian structures.

The entire city had been completely modularized.

Sitting in the military jeep, Tao Yu could once again confirm after entering the city that its population was truly small, and its area was limited as well.

The surface area was probably only a dozen or so square kilometers. Compared with the sprawling metropolitan area of the past, it really was rather shabby.

It was one thing that he hadn't seen many people on the coastal highway, but after entering the city, it felt like an ordinary small county town.

If this were any other city, that wouldn't have been strange.

But with a city of Third New Tokyo's stature, the towering buildings combined with the sparse population gave it an extra air of desolation, like a wasteland.

That gave Tao Yu a clearer idea of the situation.

"We're in the city. Where do you want to get off?"

"Just drop me somewhere, anywhere. I only came to look into the relocation benefits here. It's not really possible to survive where we're from anymore..."

Along the way, Tao Yu had managed to draw plenty of information from the people in the vehicle, relying on his Demoness-like charm, along with his powers of suggestion and emotional perception.

Third New Tokyo currently had a policy supporting relocation. The climate changes caused by the Second Impact fourteen years ago had left the city in a perpetual summer, with cicadas chirping endlessly.

The massive upheaval caused by the Second Impact
