The player army's assault on the cultist base had gone wrong from the very start.
According to their original plan, they would most likely face evil psionic powers, cursed monsters, and evil rituals capable of destroying the world once they entered the base. The players had prepared thoroughly to deal with all of these.
Each of them had brought two sets of runestones capable of defending against curses and mental attacks.
But once they actually fought their way inside, everyone except the Vam Brotherhood, who had gotten completely carried away and kept letting out weird cries like "Gua," "Kya," and "Hey," was startled by the bizarre things that kept appearing before them.
All right, the place did have the "world-shaking power" they'd expected, but its form was a little strange.
For instance, the runestones they'd brought to defend against mental attacks were definitely useless against the fully automated defense turrets pouring out of the base's corridors. And their scrolls for countering curses were no match for the exploding drones flying everywhere.
The players facing the unleashed biological weapons were especially worn down by all the strange things.
Frankenstein's monsters and tentacle monsters.
Enough already!
Ten minutes into the assault, every player was complaining. They weren't attacking a medieval magical fortress full of cultists at all. It was as if they'd wandered straight into a twenty-second-century military stronghold.
This godforsaken place even had the scientifically impossible likes of electromagnetic cannons. Just seconds ago, Electron Snail, one of the student players, had been blasted to pieces by one.
It seemed that even a battle-hardened Silver-tier warrior was helpless when their flesh met a metal projectile accelerated to ten times the speed of sound.
But this was, after all, a research base, not an actual military installation where Dusk was developing weapons of
