In the command center of the Maginot Line, the tribune commanding the defenses looked at the report submitted by the Big Bird Squad with an expression of baffled horror.
Kudel stared at the report's exaggerated descriptions of the various new plants. Even a man of his experience couldn't help asking:
"During the Fourth Black Calamity, I fought alongside Avalon's Red Knights, and I did see them summon war thornbeasts. I always thought they were summoned beasts that merely looked like plants. Those terrifying things really do grow out of the ground?"
"Uh, thornbeasts don't rely on photosynthesis to grow. They feed on the life force in their enemies' blood, Tribune."
Meow Brother felt that, as the only Red Knight of this era, he had a duty to explain the unique properties of thornbeasts to everyone. But just as he was about to begin, he realized that he didn't actually know much about them himself. All he had to go on were the legends in Old Eugene's book.

"Don't just focus on the plants. A lot of dangerous animals have appeared in the swamp, too. Compared with the slow-moving carnivorous plants, these 'new arrivals' roaming around the swamp are the bigger problem, in my opinion.
