The militarization of Transia's airships had begun as early as the time when Captain Paula and Murphy reached their transportation agreement.

Paula had assigned three airships from her transport company—one large and two small—to the Transian administration for military conversion. But given Transia's pitiful industrial capacity, the work couldn't be completed overnight.

Before the Black Calamity began, even the most optimistic commanders hadn't expected the armed airships to be ready in time for this war. But things could always take a turn for the better.

Especially after a series of twists and turns brought a succession of experts from another world, led by Sister Cement, into Transia. The armed-airship project's progress then became astonishingly swift.

Although the experts who entered Transia doubted the destructive power of armed airships, they had more faith in aircraft—battle-tested in two world wars and backed by a complete technical blueprint. Still, given the current situation, the airship project was included among the first domestic problems to be addressed.

The modifications to the three armed airships still weren't complete. Their most conspicuous shortcoming was that they lacked the main and secondary guns needed for ground attacks.

The lower decks of all three airships still had enormous gun emplacements, but they sat empty. The main reason was that Transia couldn't manufacture guns of that caliber, while the Genoa Peninsula had fallen into turmoil. Even the tremendously capable Mrs. Taylor couldn't smuggle them in.

Fortunately, the experts had finished designing and building bomb racks for the airships. That meant the Paradox players gathered aboard—basically a bunch of warmongers—wouldn't have to reach out of the cabins to drop explosives. Apart from how that would look, it would make them terribly inefficient in combat.
