Xiao Yang's food situation saw some improvement. While clearing out this prison, he found a storage room. In a corner of the room, he dug out a bag of black bread and a bottle of ale hidden away.
Fortunately, he was a bit of a hoarder, and after rummaging through a pile of useless junk for a while, he found this black bread and ale.
These items looked like someone's private stash from this prison, but in a place now overrun with zombies, it was clear no one else could enjoy them. So, they were his now.
Inside the bag of black bread, Xiao Yang found a note with scribbled handwriting.
[To: Little Peter, eat slowly!]
There seemed to be a story behind it. Xiao Yang shook his head, but he didn't discard the note. He folded it and put it in his pocket.
[Little Peter's Black Bread
Quality: Inferior
Description: A dark, hard loaf baked with sawdust mixed in. It has an absurdly long shelf life and is absurdly hard. It seems to be something a mother saved from her rations.]
[Prison Guard's Murky Ale
Quality: Inferior
Description: A bottle of ale carefully hidden by a prison guard. It's been stored for too long and is almost spoiled. Don't be afraid, a drink will make you less scared!]
After putting away the black bread and ale, it was clear these two items weren't exactly suitable for consumption. However, the basket of bread Xiao Yang got from the Beginner's Gift Pack was running out, so if absolutely necessary, these could serve as a makeshift emergency food source.
Honestly, finding anything edible in this dungeon filled with skeletons and zombies was already difficult, leaving little room for pickiness.
Xiao Yang was about to level up again, thanks to continuously clearing out these Prisoner Zombies.
It wasn't easy, especially in cells where multiple Prisoner Zombies were gathered.
Xiao Yang didn't dare provoke those kinds of cells for now. He only dared to pick on Prisoner Zombies in solitary cells.
During this time, despite being extremely careful, he was still poisoned once by the Undead Toxin. He was bitten by a zombie that suddenly rose from being buried under straw.
This mistake cost him another Minor Health Potion, leaving him with only three. While he felt the sting of the loss, the more troublesome issue was the corrosive status effect from the Undead Toxin.
However, this poisoning confirmed one thing: the Dark Dispelling Lantern had worked during his frantic health loss.
The Undead Toxin seemed to be classified under curses or abnormal status effects, and it was successfully cleared by the Dark Dispelling Lantern.
Thanks again to senior Robert!
This situation removed Xiao Yang's biggest worry, but he didn't get cocky enough to go and have fun in those cells packed with Prisoner Zombies.
He still needed to be cautious. With his current meager health, getting hit twice would mean instant death; he had no room for error.
Once again, he drove his Wilderness Hatchet deep into the chest of the Prisoner Zombie in front of him. Accompanied by a large number "10" popping up, the creature with its half-rotted face and bared teeth fell heavily.
He pulled out the Wilderness Hatchet, bringing with it a spray of blood and flesh.
Through his battles during this period, Xiao Yang inevitably got more and more blood on him, along with splattered bits of flesh. Although he tried his best to avoid it, it was unavoidable in combat.
Right now, he looked like he had walked straight out of a horror movie set, covered in dirty, splotchy bloodstains, and he had no spare clothes.
The Adventurer's Armguard and boots he wore were fine; they could be put into his inventory. With a click, the bloodstains and dirt on them would disappear. But his T-shirt and sweatpants didn't have this luxury. Once they got dirty, they stayed dirty, and he had nowhere to wash them.
Over these past few days, Xiao Yang's body odor was something else.
The zombie in front of him dropped an item – a white light. Xiao Yang grabbed it, and a pair of zombie innards appeared in his hand.
These Prisoner Zombies really didn't drop good items. They were even more stingy than the skeletons. High health, poisonous, disgusting, and smelly, yet they dropped pathetic items.
It was always zombie innards, zombie teeth, zombie nails, zombie heads, or zombie arms. They never dropped any equipment or skills.
Xiao Yang sighed, but he was used to it. At least the experience points were decent. Killing a level 10 zombie gave significantly more experience than a skeleton.
Even though he disliked these zombie materials, Xiao Yang didn't just throw them away. He carefully stored them in his backpack, thinking they might be useful later.
He leveled up! Xiao Yang was now level four. He unhesitatingly poured the newly acquired attribute points into Vitality.
The change brought by this single point in Vitality was noticeable. Xiao Yang felt much more energetic. He raised his hand; his skin, which had become pale from spending so much time in this damp dungeon, regained some color, looking less bloodless.
The feedback was clear. Of course, the most important thing was the change in the Vitality number on his status panel.
[Vitality: 20/20]
Nice. This feeling of his health bar doubling was great, giving him much greater room for error.
Of course, he wouldn't stop at just this one point in Vitality. He planned to add at least ten points.
He wanted to reach a Vitality level where he could withstand at least two attacks from the Dungeon Guardian, the one blocking his path back to his original world.
Only then would he consider challenging that formidable guy dragging a huge axe.
Although Xiao Yang's Agility was now more than three times that of the Dungeon Guardian, in such a confined space, with attacks that would cost him several lives even if he hit, it was better to be safe.
Xiao Yang intended to fully conquer this dungeon; he didn't want to be killed by an axe before he could even make his mark.
Subsequently, Xiao Yang continued to hack away at Prisoner Zombies in this prison. With a supply of emergency food secured, he decided not to leave so soon. He planned to improve himself thoroughly in this zombie-infested prison.
He set a small goal: to completely clear out this zombie prison.
During this process, he grinded day and night. When thirsty, he'd scrape some sponge moss from the stone walls. When hungry, he'd pull out a piece of bread from his backpack and take a big bite. When tired, he'd run from the breached zombie prison back to the Safe House to sleep.
He grinded so hard it felt like the world was ending, feeling incredibly fulfilled.
During this time, he also managed to obtain the accessory Undead Slayer (Zombie). Thanks to Little Bone's good luck.
Unlike the skeleton version, the zombie version of the Undead Slayer was a dried zombie finger. Xiao Yang hung both this and the skeleton's bone fragment from his waist.
The added damage from the zombie Undead Slayer increased his leveling efficiency quite a bit. A Heavy Strike now dealt two more points of damage, going from ten to twelve... Well, the improvement didn't seem that significant.
Perhaps he needed a better weapon.
