Background / History
Duramente grew up close to Sister Symboli, who cared for her when her parents were busy. Duramente's literal-mindedness was evident even then: after saying she liked dorayaki, she was served it for every meal until her parents returned. The experience contributed to her uncertainty about whether her ambitions were truly her own. 176
She initially pursued the broad goal of becoming the “strongest Horse Girl,” associating that status with winning the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. She later admitted that this goal had largely been shaped by the expectations of her family and those around her. 176
Before becoming close to Kitasan Black, Duramente was notably withdrawn, difficult to engage socially, and affected by race anxiety. Sister Symboli arranged for her to train with Kitasan Black in hopes that Kitasan’s outgoing temperament would help her adjust. 81
Appearance
Duramente has striking eyes that fade from violet into blue. 164
- She is initially identified as a black-haired girl while secretly observing Kitasan Black. 50
- Later race descriptions refer to her hair as chestnut, pulled nearly parallel to the ground while sprinting. 343
- When disguising herself in public, she wears a baseball cap, sunglasses, a mask, a thin long-sleeved jacket, light-blue jeans, and sandals—even in August heat. 164
- She wears Central Treisen Academy’s red-and-white tracksuit during training. 537
Personality
Duramente initially comes across as gloomy, reserved, stiff in conversation, and strongly independent. She tends to ignore attempts at group interaction, prefers stretching and training by herself, and struggles to communicate what she feels. 80 81
Her competitiveness is intense and direct. She is stubborn about promises, particularly her commitment to race Kitasan Black in the Kikuka Sho, even when that decision conflicts with her family’s plans for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. 164 174 She can also be painfully blunt or ineffective when attempting emotional support, as shown when her effort to comfort Kitasan only increased Kitasan’s anxiety about Gold Ship. 231
Time spent with Kitasan Black, Futanari Shingang, and the others makes her more sociable. She begins inviting classmates to dinner, recognizes her difficulty remembering names, takes interest in other people’s goals, and develops a teasing, cheerful side. 193 334 336
Abilities & Skills
Final Burst
Duramente is recognized for an exceptionally strong finishing burst and is considered one of Kitasan Black’s key rivals. 50 81
- She trusts her finishing power enough to race from the outside lane, where she has room to maneuver and attack on the final straight. 341
- Her explosiveness remains competitive with Frostfall’s despite Frostfall’s spring-like acceleration. 344
- During the Dubai race, she reacts to Frostfall’s attack by deliberately slowing half a step, waiting for her opponent to close in, then bursting forward. 342
Racecraft and Positional Awareness
Duramente shows quick tactical judgment in high-level racing.
- She identifies openings created by Futanari Shingang and Adayar’s lane movement and cuts directly toward them. 344
- She can alter her center of gravity, pace, and line under pressure rather than simply sprinting blindly. 342
- She uses lateral movement and shoulder positioning to deny Frostfall an outside-lane breakthrough. 343
- She shares racing knowledge with Futanari Shingang, including advice related to the Kobe Shimbun Hai. 193
Competitive Instinct
Elite competition heightens rather than suppresses Duramente’s motivation.
- Watching Kitasan Black contend with California Spangle and observing Adayar’s control over Futanari Shingang drives her to challenge the pinnacle of world racing. 341
- She counters Frostfall’s surprise challenge instinctively, with her fighting spirit fully ignited. 342
- She sees Kitasan Black as her most powerful and resilient rival, and conserves her strength specifically to challenge her in decisive stages. 613
Domain Sensitivity
Duramente recognizes the significance of the Domain, a rare state that raises a Horse Girl’s bodily control to an exceptional level at the cost of greater stamina consumption. 410
- She notices that Kitasan Black has touched this state during a training race. 410
- Her own reference to the Domain suggests familiarity with the phenomenon, but the available account does not confirm that she has fully entered or mastered it. 410
Racing Career
- Duramente is identified early as a likely Satsuki Sho rival with a powerful Final Burst. 50
- In a parallel-world record discussed by Anjing Zhen, she defeats Kitasan Black in both the Satsuki Sho and Japanese Derby. 81
- She chooses the Kikuka Sho over the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after promising Kitasan Black that they would race together. 164
- Crystalline inflammation forces her to rest and avoid high-intensity exercise, putting her Kikuka Sho plans in jeopardy. 192
- She enters the Dubai Sheema Classic, a race requiring an unusually high combination of speed and stamina. 304
- During the Dubai Sheema Classic, she loses a horseshoe in the final stretch but still finishes second. 354
- She later competes in the Dubai training race alongside Kitasan Black, Futanari Shingang, California Spangle, Frostfall, and Adayar. 341 344
- She remains among the final challengers in the Japan Cup, but Kitasan Black ultimately wins. 584
- In the Arima Kinen, she launches a final burst from her lane in an attempt to catch Kitasan Black. 612
Relationships

- Sister Symboli — Guardian-like senior and trainer figure who cared for Duramente during childhood, monitors her health, and manages her training workload. 176 334
- Futanari Shingang — Friend and rival. Shingang helps Duramente recognize her difficulty remembering names, while Duramente offers racing advice in return. 193
- Satono Crown — Dormmate and fellow racer. Duramente discusses senior competition with Crown and later shares a tacit urge to train after hearing about Kitasan Black’s performance. 231 409
- Almond Eye — Companion in Kitasan Black’s circle; Duramente speaks with her while watching the Dream Cup and joins her for a planned physical examination. 164 174
- Frostfall — Overseas rival who challenges Duramente directly during the Dubai race. 342 344
- Adayar — Overseas acquaintance seen training beside Duramente in Europe; her world-class racing ability helps inspire Duramente’s ambition. 341 537
Story Role / Major Arcs
Early Rival and Training Partner
Duramente first appears while covertly observing Kitasan Black before a major race. Her Final Burst earns immediate attention as a potential threat. 50 Symboli’s concern over her race anxiety leads to joint training and awkward social encounters with Kitasan Black. 80 81
Kikuka Sho Promise and Injury
Duramente secretly leaves home to watch the Dream Cup and tells Kitasan Black that she has chosen the Kikuka Sho over the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe to honor their promise. 164 Her determination is complicated by crystalline inflammation, which requires rest and rehabilitation rather than continued high-intensity training. 192
Dubai Campaign
She races in the Dubai Sheema Classic, where a lost horseshoe prevents a clean finish but does not stop her from taking second place. 304 354 In the subsequent international training race, competing beside California Spangle, Frostfall, Adayar, Kitasan Black, and Futanari Shingang exposes her to a level of racing she sees as the true global pinnacle. 341 344
Renewed Ambition
After injuries, defeats, and Kitasan Black’s influence, Duramente reevaluates her single-minded pursuit of being “the strongest.” She begins to see value in rivals, friends, and goals beyond a title, while renewing her interest in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and challenging Kitasan Black internationally. 451
Notable Quotes
“I promised you, so I will definitely enter the Kikuka Sho.” 164
“Since the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is the greatest race, then if I want to become the strongest Horse Girl, I... should win it.” 176
“This... is the pinnacle I want to challenge!” 341
Trivia
- Duramente’s first disguise is so conspicuous that Kitasan Black recognizes her despite the cap, sunglasses, mask, and full coverage clothing. 164
- She has difficulty remembering people’s names and only recognizes the pattern after discussing it with Futanari Shingang. 193
- Her literal interpretation of Futanari Shingang’s “gourd” metaphor leads her to physically shake herself to check whether she resembles one. 336
- She envies Kitasan Black’s ability to withstand a heavier training workload, but Sister Symboli refuses to let her match it. 334
