Chaos spent more than three years on Goat Island developing the Gold-Gold Fruit, practicing Rokushiki, and surviving daily battles against Little Tiger, Little Lion, and Little Jaw. The repeated fights hardened his body and instincts, but also convinced him that fighting animals could not replace real combat against humans 2.

Before leaving the island, he accumulated and refined its available gold into a personal arsenal. He developed concealed Golden Inner Armor, remote-controlled Golden Warriors, aerial movement, and a wide variety of weapon forms from that stockpile 4 5.

His first encounter with pirate violence came aboard a merchant ship attacked by the Poison Fang Pirates. Chaos calmly killed attackers with gold nails fired from his inner armor, then recognized the value of human combat experience and adopted a more aggressive approach to life 6 8.
