Sheriff Jones ultimately didn't take Fu Qian's advice. He just grew even quieter for a while.
It was obvious that what had happened had dealt a blow to his professional confidence.
After leading everyone back along the way they'd come, he offered no explanation and simply told the two cars to keep moving.
They'd gone only a few hundred meters when he called for them to stop again.
A fork in the road had appeared right in front of them.
After a brief moment of consideration, Jones told his men to turn onto the road on the right.
By comparison, this road was clearly narrower and looked much older than the other one.
They hadn't gone far before a bright yellow car came into view, sitting silently in the middle of the road.
Ahead of the car, the road had apparently come to an end, blocked by rubble and accumulated dirt.
"Is that your wife's car?"
Jones had clearly been watching the reactions of the two people in the back seat. Seeing Harold suddenly sit up, he asked without surprise.
"Yes. She drove this car out this morning."
Harold stared straight ahead, his expression complicated.
"Then let's get out and take a look."
Jones said no more and simply gestured for everyone to get out.
By the time Cartman and the others caught up, he was already standing beside the car in silence.
"There's no one inside. The window must have been smashed from the outside."
