The clothes and hair of the woman who was her mother in front of her really did carry a scent she thought she had almost forgotten: her mother's.
This couldn't possibly be hair from two years ago. It had to be recent. Which meant that if Jinx's body, even her internal organs, had recovered just as Jinx said, then...
"Then why are you still acting like a lunatic, Jinx?! Wasn't your madness caused by the chemicals in your body?!"
Catherine angrily confronted Jinx. She had always believed Jinx's lunacy and madness were the result of chemical contamination. Only that belief had kept her from giving in to the urge to shoot Jinx in the head.
But Jinx only stared blankly at Catherine before slowly asking, "In Piltover and Zaun, did chemical contamination affect my madness?"
Catherine fell silent. It didn't. A place as chaotic and crime-ridden as Zaun didn't make people go mad. If anything, it was the enormous divide between Piltover and Zaun that had driven Jinx insane.
"As for whether I'm telling the truth, Catherine, you can have a doctor examine me yourself..."
Jinx stroked her lower abdomen as she spoke.
"You must have seen my medical reports. My body had at least four bullets and forty shrapnel fragments lodged inside it. My organs and brain were also badly contaminated and distorted by chemical agents. If nothing unexpected happened, I wouldn't have lived to see twenty."
Jinx's words made Catherine turn her head away. That was why she hadn't wanted to shoot Jinx dead. Jinx's body had long been on the verge of collapse. If Jinx hadn't been a genius herself, capable of using all sorts of drugs to keep her body in balance, she would have died long ago.
Catherine knew that very well.
