Don't Want to Go to School, Want Adventure (Seeking Collection, Recommendation, Monthly Tickets, Follow-up Reads, and Investments)
"Is that so?" Clark sighed softly. He wasn't a mage either and had no way of knowing whether what Robet said was true, but Robet's reasoning made sense. Judging by the fact that Okinja and the other two had brought guns and said they would prepare bullets for him, the three of them really could come into conflict out of greed and anger.
"Forget it, let's leave it at that. Let's talk about school. You should know that Martha and Jonathan could never agree to let you not go to school..." Clark quickly came back to himself and looked at Robet as he spoke.
"Even I wouldn't agree to you skipping school. Even if you want to go out adventuring and train, you should wait until you're an adult before considering it. Once you're an adult, I could travel around and see the world too. If you hadn't appeared, I probably would've been lost over the meaning of my own existence, then left home early to experience different ways of life!"
"That's a form of training too—training for the heart!" Robet's eyes lit up as he said earnestly, "Then what are we waiting for? Let's go home, pack up, and set off on our own!"
"Don't even think about it!" Clark glared at Robet and snapped irritably.
"Then what am I supposed to do? The school wants to expel me, and they look pretty powerful. I'm helpless too! Might as well get some compensation..." Robet deliberately pouted and let out a theatrical sigh.
Robet: ╮(~▽~)╭
"Then take the compensation and enroll at another school!" Clark fell silent for a moment before speaking. "After causing such a big scene, even if others see you as the victim, your life at school probably won't be easy if you go back. So it's better to change schools!"
"But you're not dropping out—you're transferring. Being expelled will affect you. Even if you don't care about that, Martha and the others do!"
"We can make that a condition. Have the school handle the transfer procedures, documents, and records. The principal is anxious to get you out of here to settle this incident and appease the other students' parents, so he should agree..."
"Huh?" Robet instantly went blank. He blinked at Clark, wanting to struggle a little more.
Robet: (﹏)
"Come on! We need to go. If we don't get there now, we'll be late!" Clark gave Robet no chance to say anything else. He dragged him straight back to the car, then explained his idea to the Kents.
The Kents were somewhat helpless about Robet ultimately having no choice but to transfer schools, but they felt Clark had a point. Robet really should be given a different environment to study in.
Thus, the old pickup truck set off once again and soon arrived at the school. Some of the parents had already left, but parent representatives were still talking with the school administration. It seemed they would not leave until they were satisfied.
Clark heard that the parent representatives had taken advantage of the public attention to add more demands, seeking greater benefits. However, those demands were all about increasing campus security, installing more cameras, and providing better teachers for the children. They had nothing to do with Robet, so Clark couldn't be bothered with them.
Soon, the Kent Family arrived at the principal's office and found Principal Bob looking utterly frazzled.
"Whew! You're here?" Bob let out a sigh of relief when he saw the Kent Family. Then his expression turned awkward. It had been easier to speak over the phone, but faced with Jonathan's unfriendly expression, Bob suddenly lacked the confidence to know how to begin.
Still, thinking of the parents who had yet to leave and the ever-growing list of demands they were making, Bob felt enormous pressure. In the end, he could only sigh and look at the Kent Family as he spoke quietly. "It's just as I said on the phone. It isn't that I want Robet to be expelled either. After all, he was a victim in this incident..."
"But there's no other way. You saw it too—the parents of those students still haven't left the school. These are their demands. I know it's perfectly reasonable for them to demand that Okinja and the other two be expelled, but demanding Robet's expulsion makes no sense..."
"So the school knows that we're in the wrong as well, and we're willing to provide you with financial compensation. We hope you can understand the school's difficulties too. After all, none of us wanted something like this to happen, right?"
"Expulsion is out of the question!" Clark began negotiating on behalf of the Kent Family. He looked at Bob sternly and said, "You know perfectly well what impact being expelled by the school would have on Robet. When I was in school, even students who were beaten badly enough to be hospitalized were never expelled, let alone Robet, who is an innocent victim this time. If the school really forces him out, I'm sure some media outlets would be interested in reporting the full story..."
"This..." Bob's heart tightened at Clark's words. He couldn't understand why something like this had happened at his school. If he did not resolve Robet's expulsion quickly, satisfy the parents, and eliminate the impact of the public outcry, then his time as principal would be over. The board had already begun putting pressure on him.
Okinja and the other two were easier to deal with. They had originally needed to take leave from school due to their injuries, and they had committed wrongdoing in the first place, so Bob could handle the three of them firmly.
But Robet was different. Robet was purely a victim. If he handled this forcefully and caused the Kent Family to make a fuss too, there would probably be even more trouble...
However, just as Bob's thoughts churned uncertainly, Clark suddenly changed tack and said, "But leaving this school isn't impossible. We do have conditions!"
"Tell me! The price is negotiable! I heard that student Robet won the competitive eating contest and received a prize of ten thousand dollars. How about this? The school will pay fifty thousand dollars—fifty thousand dollars after taxes—as compensation for Robet. You should know that the average scholarship at many excellent universities isn't even that high!" Bob relaxed when he heard this and hurriedly spoke with a smile.
"Money isn't the main issue. The important thing is Robet's schooling. Robet isn't dropping out—he's transferring. The school will help handle Robet's transfer, and then he can attend school somewhere else. That way, everyone will be happy, won't they?" Clark waved a hand and looked seriously at Bob as he spoke.
Robet: No! (Extremely loudly!)
(ノ=Д=)ノ┻━┻
"Huh?" However, to Clark's surprise, Bob froze slightly upon hearing that condition. Then, looking somewhat embarrassed, he said, "Well, transferring schools might be a little difficult..."
Robet: Yay! (Even louder!)
