Background / History

Shisui initially belonged to the Uchiha faction that trusted Konohagakure's leadership. During the clan meeting following Root and Anbu casualties, he pressured Elder Setsuna's faction to surrender the culprit, arguing that Sarutobi Hiruzen was still trying to protect the Uchiha from Danzo. 2 He accepted Hiruzen's explanation for Danzo possessing Sharingan and remained convinced that the Hokage could help the Uchiha integrate into the village. 11 31

Uchiha Jin's warnings gradually undermined that faith. Shisui noticed that Hiruzen avoided eye contact, kept Anbu nearby, and behaved warily after learning of Kotoamatsukami. 31 32 Though he initially rejected Jin's claims, he began investigating the conflict between the village and his clan rather than accepting the Hokage's assurances at face value. 31 32

Fugaku later sealed Shisui's chakra and removed his Mangekyo eyes to prevent an Uchiha civil war. Shisui accepted the punishment because he recognized both Fugaku's authority as Clan Head and his own responsibility to the clan. 50 52 While restricted to the compound, he and Itachi watched other shinobi clans ally with the Uchiha and struggled to reconcile those changes with their former beliefs. 73 74 75

By the founding of New Konohagakure, Shisui had abandoned his former certainty in Hiruzen and the Will of Fire. Jin's explanation that strength ultimately determines control over power persuaded him and Itachi to join the new village's Anbu under Kakashi. 117 118 He later participated in major operations, including the coordinated assassination of the Daimyo and nobility. 212

Jin eventually sent Shisui to an alternate Shinobi World on the night scheduled for that world's Uchiha Clan Massacre. His mission was to stop Itachi and Obito, secure control of the Uchiha, and use the clan's strength to prevent Konoha's leadership from exterminating them. 388 Arriving in a world where its Shisui had already died, he revealed himself to Uchiha Tenno and the clan, warned them of the planned massacre, and organized an emergency defense. 388 390 391

Personality

Shisui began as gentle, earnest, and intensely loyal to the village. His confidence in Sarutobi Hiruzen made him dismiss warnings that the Hokage and Danzo might be exploiting the Uchiha. 31 He was nevertheless observant as a battlefield shinobi; once Jin directed his attention to Hiruzen's conduct, Shisui recognized details he had previously overlooked. 32

His experiences in New Konohagakure made him deeply critical of his earlier worldview. He came to believe that he had helped oppress his own clansmen because he had mistaken village loyalty for moral clarity. 222 Even after gaining political awareness, he considered himself inferior to Jin in calculation and leadership. 391 402

During the alternate-world crisis, Shisui became direct, pragmatic, and willing to kill in defense of the clan.
