Background / History
Following Hatake Sakumo’s death and the subsequent losses of Obito, Rin, and Namikaze Minato’s family, Kakashi becomes emotionally numb. He continues operating as an Anbu shinobi but regards himself as little more than a “walking corpse,” believing vengeance cannot restore the dead. 42
Although he initially remains silent out of loyalty to Old Konohagakure, revelations surrounding Sakumo’s death and the village leadership’s treatment of powerful shinobi cause him to question Sarutobi Hiruzen’s rule. Shisui’s allegations connect Sakumo’s death to a broader pattern involving Minato, Nawaki, Dan Katō, Orochimaru, and bloodline clans. 115 403
Rumors concerning Sakumo’s supposed infidelity and suicide finally push Kakashi into action. He attacks Danzo at the Root base seeking revenge, but Danzo survives through Izanagi and overwhelms him; Obito intervenes before Kakashi can be killed. 60 Kakashi and Might Guy later seek refuge with the Uchiha after their attempt on Danzo, and Kakashi submits his resignation from the old village through the clan. 63 68
After joining New Konohagakure, Kakashi recognizes the depth of Old Konoha’s corruption and becomes openly loyal to Uchiha Jin’s administration. He acknowledges that his previous position and Sarutobi’s restrictions prevented him from doing more than secretly ensure Naruto’s survival. 115 116

Despite his reserved nature, Kakashi is gentle toward Naruto and remains concerned for Obito even after learning the extent of Obito’s crimes. 155 386
