Background / History
Liu Zhengqing was the son of Uncle Fu and grew up alongside Bi Changsheng. After witnessing Bi Changsheng’s abilities, he developed deep admiration for him and sought martial strength to ease his young master’s burdens. Bi Changsheng first taught him the Six Harmonies Fist after finding his sword aptitude ordinary; Zhengqing instead showed exceptional talent with fist techniques. 6
Fang Yaoyang discovered Zhengqing’s Azure Heaven Hegemonic Body and sought to recruit him for the Divine Fist Sect. Zhengqing initially refused because he wanted only to follow Bi Changsheng, but he eventually accepted Fang Yaoyang as master after recognizing the sect’s sincere investment in him. He remained more devoted to Bi Changsheng and Uncle Fu, however, and did not disclose Bi Changsheng’s secrets to the sect. 41 71
His fortunes in the Immortal Martial Secret Realm transformed his growth. An unknown ore strongly resonated with the Azure Heaven Hegemonic Body, rapidly advancing his physique and cultivation. Bi Changsheng identified Zhengqing as a favored child of fortune—later a possible son of destiny—and taught him the methods needed to pursue the Aperture Opening Realm. 90 107 449
During the war against Great Gan, Zhengqing accepted Bi Changsheng’s commission to kill the Gan Emperor. He opened his final acupoint mid-battle and entered the Aperture Opening Realm, but would have been killed by the Gan Emperor’s giant-python form without the sword energy Bi Changsheng had secretly stored in him. Zhengqing considered the victory Bi Changsheng’s rather than his own and resolved to cultivate until he could truly help rather than burden him. 110 113 114 116
After arriving at the Golden Sun Sect, Zhengqing passed True Monarch Refining Sun’s test and inherited a cultivation method and resources capable of supporting him to Nascent Soul. His existence was concealed while he cultivated in seclusion on the Golden Sun Main Peak. Following his breakthrough, he received the Dharma name Zhengyang and became a major pillar of the sect. 278 409 412
In the conflict surrounding Bi Changsheng’s Nascent Soul tribulation, Zhengqing burned his own Nascent Soul to protect Bi Changsheng and True Person Yu Yang. The act nearly erased him completely. Bi Changsheng preserved his Nascent Soul with the Nascent Soul Seizing Technique and Creation energy, later reconstructing Zhengqing’s body with Creation lotus root, Breathing Soil, and the essences of fire, water, and metal. 521 522 537 652
Personality
Zhengqing is earnest, loyal, and straightforward. He is especially transparent with Bi Changsheng, openly showing youthful pride in his progress, disappointment when he falls short, and an intense desire to become useful to him. 107 116
He is humble despite extraordinary talent. After being praised for his Nascent Soul breakthrough, he credited Bi Changsheng and True Person Yu Yang rather than himself. He can be more solemn and authoritative before sect elders, while retaining an honest, simple manner around Bi Changsheng and his father. 412
His loyalty can become self-sacrificial. He burned his Nascent Soul rather than allow Bi Changsheng’s tribulation to be disrupted, despite the risk of irreversible dissipation and losing the chance for reincarnation. 521 522
