"Pokémon?"
Warwick was utterly confused when he heard the unfamiliar name Rhine had spoken.
That was only natural. After all, it was only 1991, a full five years before Pokémon would first be released on the Game Boy in 1996.
Forget Warwick, a wizard living in the magical world—even the trendiest players obsessed with the cutting edge of gaming could not possibly know the name Pokémon yet.
But that was fine. Since Nintendo had not released Pokémon yet, Rhine, already a seasoned plagiarist, felt even less guilt about copying the concept.
"Yes, Pokémon. It's a work I'm still developing."
"By the way, I'm a famous author in the Muggle world. My books may even sell better than Mr. Lockhart's do in the magical world. You can buy my works at any Muggle bookstore outside Diagon Alley."
"I envisioned a world where Pokémon Trainers and Pokémon lived alongside one another. But after coming to the magical world and seeing so many magical creatures, I suddenly felt that Merlin must have been guiding me from the shadows."
"Aren't these magical creatures Pokémon?"
Rhine then began telling Warwick all about Pokémon.
Warwick's eyes gradually lit up.
"In your story, Pokémon are trusted companions to everyone. Whether ordinary citizens or professionals, good people or bad, all of them raise Pokémon."
"The most outstanding Pokémon Trainers even bring the Pokémon they have raised to challenge various Gyms, collect Badges, and strive for the highest honor."
"You think magical creatures could become the Pokémon in your story?"
Rhine nodded firmly.
"That's right."
"I have a dream. I dream that one day, magical creatures will become companions every wizard relies on."
"Raising magical creatures and commanding magical creatures will become mandatory lessons for every wizard."
"Forgive my bluntness, but from what I've learned so far, wizards simply do not value magical creatures enough. Many magical creatures that could clearly serve tremendous purposes can only play the role of pets in wizards' hands."
"Yet their strength could clearly be put to better use."
"Take the legendary magizoologist, Newt. His magical creatures were even able to play an enormous role in the fight against Grindelwald."
"If we can build an ecosystem for magical creatures like that of Pokémon, then, Mr. Warwick, this will not only be an undertaking capable of creating immense wealth, fame, and status—it will also greatly transform the lives of wizards."
"Wizards who are not skilled at fighting can raise a powerful magical creature companion to protect themselves."
"Wizards with busy jobs can raise magical creature companions skilled at cleaning to help them in daily life."
"Even Squibs can experience the convenience of magic with the help of magical creature companions."
"And once wizards begin valuing magical creatures as never before, research into and cultivation of magical creatures will explode as well. More and more species of magical creatures will appear, and all of that will be a legacy you leave to future generations."
Warwick took a deep breath as his thoughts battled fiercely.
At that moment, Rhine spoke softly.
"Mr. Warwick, are you still hesitating?"
"Take a look around you."
Warwick froze for a moment before remembering that, for some reason, his Magical Menagerie had become unusually quiet since earlier.
Why had all those magical creatures that were usually so noisy fallen silent?
He turned to look around and saw the blazing gazes of every magical creature in their cages.
Rhine's words had not only been heard by Warwick. The magical creatures had heard them too.
They did not care about leaving their names in history.
They cared about only one thing: what Rhine had said about wizards and magical creatures becoming companions to one another.
If they had to live alongside wizards, then let them do what they were good at.
That future might not truly come to pass, but at least it would be better than spending their entire lives as pets in cages.
Warwick stared blankly at the magical creatures he had raised. The hesitation in his heart gradually faded, replaced by the flames of a dream.
"All right, all right."
"I don't want to spend my whole life guarding a cramped Magical Menagerie either, making these magical creatures squeeze into cages layer upon layer. At the very least, it should be a bigger shop."
"I'll think about how to carry out the Magical Creature Pokémon Project."
He looked at Rhine, gratitude in his eyes.
"Rhine, thank you for giving me such a valuable idea!"
Then Warwick began enthusiastically remeasuring the shop's dimensions. It seemed he intended to properly renovate the store, which had not received a thorough cleaning in more than a decade, in preparation for the future Magical Creature Pokémon Project.
A faint smile appeared on Rhine's face.
He had proposed this idea not only to deepen his relationship with Warwick more quickly, but also to prepare for the Spirit Beast Cultivation Talent he would be able to obtain from Warwick later.
If Warwick truly could turn the magical creatures of the magical world into something like Pokémon, then the cultivation of magical creatures would surely rise to a whole new level.
Rhine would be able to gain plenty of benefits from it in the future as well.
The Spirit Beast Cultivation Talent would be able to shine brilliantly!
Seeing on the system display that his relationship with Warwick had taken another step forward from Casual Acquaintance toward Close Friendship, Rhine was very satisfied.
But now that both Ollivander and Warwick had become busy, Rhine found himself with nothing to do.
He decided to study the Hogwarts magic textbooks in advance.
It was always good to master a few spells ahead of time. At the very least, they would make certain things in daily life much more convenient.
At the same time, a thought flashed through Rhine's mind.
"Right, I can't neglect my relationship with Hermione either."
"She's the person I'm closest to achieving Life-and-Death Friendship with. I need to keep it going. With the Five-Colored Light Stone in Deng Chanyu's hands, even Immortal Gods could be beaten black and blue. I can't miss out on that reward."
As for how to maintain a relationship with a top student like Hermione?
Obviously, by studying!
Rhine immediately found a phone booth and called the Granger residence.
Once the call connected, a gentle, mature female voice came from the other end.
"Hello, The Granger Residence. Who are you looking for?"
Rhine hurriedly said, "Is this Mrs. Granger? My name is Rhine Snow. I'm Hermione's friend. We met in Diagon Alley."
"Is she home?"
The moment he said that, Mrs. Granger paused abruptly on the other end of the line.
"Rhine Snow?"
"Wait, which Rhine Snow?"
"Don't tell me you're that Rhine Snow who writes books?"
Rhine looked helpless.
"Yes, that's me."
The next second, Mrs. Granger let out a delighted cry.
"Wow!"
"Mr. Rhine, our whole family are devoted fans of yours! I never expected you and Hermione to become friends!"
"I'll go get her right away."
As she spoke, Mrs. Granger put down the phone and hurried to call Hermione, who had been studying in her room.
When Hermione heard that Rhine was looking for her, she quickly ran to the phone and said between breaths, "Rhine?"
"Why are you calling me?"
Rhine smiled.
"There's still over a month until school starts. I guessed that you must be studying magic in advance, Hermione. Practicing by yourself is so boring."
"How about coming to Diagon Alley? We can read together."
After the call ended, Hermione's heart began racing as she hurriedly packed her schoolbag.
"Mom, I'm going out."
Mrs. Granger asked with a smile, "A date?"
Hermione let out a shriek.
"No, we're reading! Studying!"
Mrs. Granger covered her mouth and laughed even harder.
"It's all right, sweetheart. Your father and I often used reading as an excuse to go on dates when we were in school too."
"I was thinking, aside from your school uniform, shouldn't you bring a few pretty outfits to Hogwarts as well? What if they have a ball there?"
Hermione's face burned as she fled the house as if escaping, vigorously shaking her head.
"Honestly, what goes through adults' minds? So vulgar!"
Then she raised her chin, and her competitive spirit surged once more.
In Muggle subjects, especially literature, Hermione felt that she might never be able to compare her achievements to Rhine's.
But now they were studying magical subjects.
What if she could beat Rhine at magic?
People had to have dreams, didn't they?
