Soul Masters are distinguished from Ordinary People by their ability to awaken a Martial Soul and possess Soul Power. A person without awakened Soul Power cannot cultivate, while even low Innate Soul Power provides a path into Soul Master cultivation 1 2.

Their strength is built through Soul Power, Martial Souls, Soul Rings, physical conditioning, Spiritual Power, and combat experience. Soul Rings are traditionally acquired by killing Soul Beasts, creating a system in which growing numbers of Soul Masters place increasing pressure on Soul Beast populations 7 8.

Martial Soul Hall plays a major role in the Soul Master world: it conducts registrations, provides subsidies to registered Soul Masters, controls the Soul Hunting Forest in practice, and later disseminates new cultivation systems such as Soul Cores and Soul Spirits 7 9 320.
