A small town on the outskirts of London, Yasha Manor.
The owner of this estate was said to be descended from travelers who had come from the distant East many years ago. Its original owner had been a Chinese person named Yang Hang, who settled here and married Yasha Belenka, the daughter of a local noble. Their descendants had lived here for generations.
The current residents were Madam Carolina Yang, who was over sixty, and her daughter.
Beside Yasha Manor stood another sizeable residence, the Old Manor of the Smith Family. However, ever since Old Mr. and Mrs. Smith passed away, their son and daughter-in-law, who lived in Greenwich, had rarely stayed here. Now, only an Old Butler remained to look after the estate.
Incidentally, the Smith family's daughter-in-law was Lin Yang, Madam Carolina Yang's daughter.
Of course, she was now called Lin Smith.
To the town residents, these two neighboring households were equally strange. They rarely interacted with the locals, though both families were extremely wealthy. Otherwise, how could they have raised such outstanding children?
They had even heard that one of them was a university professor!
That was what the town residents always said.
However, Love Smith clearly knew nothing of such gossip. Having received an elite education from childhood, he had no dealings whatsoever with the town residents.
An hour before dinner, the Smith family's figures emerged from the fireplace in the basement of Yasha Yang Manor.
This was not Mr. Smith's first time using the Floo Network. As the husband of a witch, his identity had been registered with the Ministry of Magic—to avoid triggering the Secrecy Act. It was precisely these experiences with magical transportation that had made Mr. Smith so curious about the world of wizards.
Waiting for them before the fireplace was Carica, the Yang family's House-elf. This female House-elf now served the Yang family alongside her mother and brother. To them, the Smith family also counted as their masters.
There was no other reason. Love Smith and Lin Smith had grown up together. They had been unable to reveal this in the past because of the Secrecy Act, but that did not stop the House-elves from developing affection for Mr. Smith.
And after Love Smith and their young mistress became husband and wife, there was no longer any need to hide that affection.
"Welcome home, my masters."
Carica performed a standard noble's curtsy. As she rose, she even winked at Jon.
Jon returned the look. His friendship with Carica, this House-elf, dated back to when he had lived at Yasha Manor.
Those had truly been happy days.
Naturally, there was no need for a House-elf to guide them in their own home. As a wizarding family that had been established locally for centuries, the Yang family not only had its own House-elves but also several wizard servants. These wizards were the sort without much profound magical ability, and finding a job with decent pay was hardly a bad thing for them.
After all, the families of these servants still lived in the Muggle world. Two of them even had family members who were not wizards, and they still needed ordinary currency to survive.
Love Smith was the one who paid these servants' wages. Of course, this expense was just a small sum to him.
The walk from the basement to the living room was not far. As soon as Jon went upstairs, he saw his maternal grandmother sitting on the sofa in a silk robe and glasses, drinking tea and reading. This old witch looked like an Old Lady from an ordinary family—if one ignored the fact that she casually turned a small wooden block beside her into an exquisite silver cup.
"Grandma, I missed you so much!"
Jon smiled as he walked over and sat beside Madam Carolina, hugging his maternal grandmother's arm as he read with her. He could not throw himself into his maternal grandmother's arms and act cute like a Child—that would make him physically uncomfortable—but he could still show affection.
By comparison, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were much more reserved. After greeting Madam Carolina, they sat down on the sofa beside her.
Love Smith loved visiting Yasha Manor. Its library contained many interesting books from the Wizarding World, and he would read one or two every time he came. Those books were all legends and secret tales from the Wizarding World, and he could understand them perfectly well when reading them for entertainment.
Madam Mei Yang, who had heard of her younger sister's family's arrival, had also come downstairs. Behind her followed a black-haired girl who looked two years older than Jon. She was Jon's cousin, Bella Yang, the future heir of Yasha Yang Manor.
Jon and Bella Yang got along very well. Because her parents' marriage had been unhappy, Bella was clearly closer to her maternal grandmother and Jon, her younger cousin, while remaining rather distant toward her own mother.
There was still some time before the banquet began. Mrs. Smith had private matters to discuss with her mother and sister, while Mr. Smith went to the library to read. Naturally, Jon went to play in the manor with his cousin Bella.
"I heard you've already gotten your wand? Hurry up and let your cousin take a look."
Away from the adults, Bella finally showed a little liveliness. She was extremely interested in her cousin's wand.
Jon was not worried about his wand being damaged, so he generously pulled it out and handed it to Bella.
Bella waved the wand, but nothing happened. It seemed she wanted to cast a small spell for Jon to see.
Being descended from a Pure-blood Wizard family came with many advantages. Take the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Wizards Act, for example. Aside from Young Wizards who had not yet begun learning magic but had already obtained their wands being allowed to cast spells, descendants of Pureblood Families would not receive warning letters from the Ministry of Magic for using magic during the holidays while they were in school.
Jon seriously suspected that the Ministry of Magic's related laws had been designed solely for Muggle-born Young Wizards, and that they carried a severe discriminatory bias.
On one side were Pure-blood Wizards who had parents to teach them and could practice magic during the holidays. On the other were Muggle-born wizards who had to teach themselves and could not use magic during holidays. The Ministry of Magic's favoritism could not have been more obvious.
"Looks like you and my wand aren't fated."
Jon tilted his head as he took back his wand, then changed the subject. "Is Hogwarts fun?"
"There's nothing fun about it. If you really want to learn something, you'll be very busy. Honestly, there's a lot of homework."
Bella Yang was currently in Ravenclaw at Hogwarts and would be entering her third year when school began. Of course, attending Ravenclaw was a tradition among Yang family wizards.
"By the way, which house do you want to enter?" Bella blinked. "I heard from Mother that you have great magical talent. Do you want to join Gryffindor or Slytherin?"
