Background / History

Origins

Soul Beast is a broad classification, not the name of a single race. Zhongli attributes their emergence on Douluo Continent to the Dragon God War, when divine blood, souls, bodies, divine-beast bloodlines, and fragments of divine artifacts fell into the lower realm. These remnants also enabled early humans to acquire Martial Souls. 9 50

Not every Soul Beast traces its existence or allegiance to the Dragon God. The Extreme North follows the Ice God, while the powerful Sea Soul Beast later identified as the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King held faith only in the ocean rather than the Dragon God. 9

Ecology and Society

Soul Beast society is governed largely by predation. Higher-cultivation Soul Beasts consume weaker ones; Hundred-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts prey on Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Beasts, while even plant-type Soul Beasts may devour others. This cycle applies across species and sometimes within the same species. 50

Their intelligence varies sharply. High-level beings such as the Fierce Beasts can speak, plan, negotiate, and command territories, while many lower-level Soul Beasts follow instinct much like ordinary animals. 148 159

This lack of uniform intelligence, combined with competition for food and territory, prevents lasting unity among all Soul Beasts. 50 151

The Dragon God's Curse

The Dragon God placed a hidden curse on all Soul Beasts: until the appearance of a new Dragon God, they could not become gods. The curse also accompanied the tribulation system that repeatedly culled high-level Soul Beasts. 50 98 99

The Sky Screen later removed the restriction on godhood, allowing every Soul Beast to feel the disappearance of its restraints. 95

Cultivation and Physical Superiority

Soul Beasts accumulate cultivation over extremely long periods. At equal levels, they generally possess stronger physiques and far greater Soul Power reserves than human Soul Masters. 50 148

• A 100,000-year Soul Beast is regarded as comparable to a Titled Douluo, though individual strength differs greatly. 8
• Fierce Beasts possess Soul Cores, an advantage absent from contemporary human powerhouses. 8
• A 50,000-year Soul Beast is broadly equivalent to a Soul Douluo; exceptional individuals can threaten Titled Douluo-level opponents. 151
• The 60,000-year Dark Demon Evil God Tiger was capable of fighting a Titled Douluo-level Tang San, and ordinary Titled Douluo were considered unable to defeat it without special advantages. 150

Spirit Ring Resource

Before Zhongli's intervention, human Soul Masters required Spirit Rings from Soul Beasts to advance through major cultivation stages. This system made conflict between the two sides effectively inevitable. 141 158
