Appearance
Ding Wei is a veteran soldier with small eyes that habitually squint when he looks at people. He is usually seen wearing a cheerful smile. 132
Personality
Ding Wei is easygoing and playful off duty. He welcomes new members warmly, jokes with his squadmates, and enjoys playing mobile games with Ji Baichang. 132 271 During Chen Ting's leave, his looser style noticeably reduces the pressure on First Squad compared with Chen Ting's strict discipline. 181
Despite this casual manner, Ding Wei takes responsibility seriously when placed in command. He insists that inexperienced soldiers follow orders in the field, directs searches based on terrain and tracks, and deliberately changes sensitive discussions to preserve the squad's morale after difficult missions. 188 189 190
He is reluctant to discuss the 2016 battle in which his original First Squad lost five men. The memory leaves him angry and unsettled, particularly when facing SEAL Team Six again. 237 After being wounded while recklessly volunteering to investigate an enemy position, he accepts Chen Ting's criticism and promises not to endanger himself so carelessly again. 240 241

An explosion knocked him unconscious; when he awoke, he found that five members of his First Squad had been killed. The squad's sacrifice later earned the collective First-Class Merit displayed in First Squad. 237

During the western border deployment, Chen Ting assigns Ding Wei to lead a group to a remote sentry post. He guides the team through the shift change and oversees Lü Qinglong's first interactions with the border-defense veterans. 140 In the ensuing conflict, Ding Wei's rocket launcher is used by Xue Daochao to disrupt the enemy formation; Ding Wei is initially and incorrectly credited for the shot before Xue Daochao identifies himself as the shooter. 146 147
While Chen Ting is on leave, Ding Wei serves as First Squad's acting leader. He organizes emergency-readiness training, maintains contact with Chen Ting, and leads First Squad on a mountain operation to locate a surrendering fugitive. 178 183 188 190

He volunteers to inspect the enemy's position and is shot, with his armor preventing a fatal injury. Chen Ting later reprimands him for risking his life, especially as the intended successor to First Squad's leadership. 237 240 241
