Background

Obito was believed dead after the Kannabi Bridge incident, but awoke in Madara Uchiha's cave with a white, soft replacement half-body and a missing arm. Madara saved him and immediately became his strict, unwilling teacher. 103 105

Although already a Konoha Chunin, Obito had been a poor and frequently absent academy student. Madara forced him to resume studying, assigned daily homework, and even woke him through a genjutsu Obito nicknamed Illusion Technique: Cheer Up. 105 His poor academic performance continued after becoming a transfer student at the Grass Ninja Academy; on one exam, he answered only the question concerning Kannabi Bridge. 113
