The Mist Shadow's Purge

Boruto re-formed in the physical world, weaker than expected. Sarada's "Time Dilation" immediately enveloped him, slowing the rate at which his energy dissipated and buying him precious time.

"How long?" she asked, her eyes bleeding and her voice hoarse.

"Long enough," he said, then collapsed.

But he didn't lose consciousness. With Sarada supporting him, he pointed toward the Land of Fire. "Chiyo. We have to find her. Now."

They tracked Chiyo through Boruto's remaining network connections and discovered she was heading to the same border village—the place where Sarada had awakened her Mangekyō Sharingan, the ruins destroyed by the Blank Bodies. Some kind of symmetry, an echo of fate.

They arrived before dawn. Chiyo stood amid the church's ruins, surrounded by Blank Bodies she had created—not infected civilians, but failed experiments she had transformed, by-products of her attempts to understand her own abilities.

"Have you come to carry out the purge?" she asked. Her voice was hollow, different from the Judgement's layered voice, yet just as devoid of human warmth.

"I've come to offer you a choice," Boruto said, shrugging off Sarada's support and walking forward alone. "Not evolution, not extinction, not becoming a Node or a Blank. A third path."

"There is no third path," Chiyo said. Her Light Pattern flickered unsteadily. "I tried. I rejected the seed. I fought the network. I tried to hold on to... this." She pointed to her own body. "But I'm fading away. Every Purifier who refuses to choose is fading. The Judgement is the only salvation—joining the collective and losing yourself, but at least... existing."
