Background / History

Xie Jin appeared before Fang Ming as a ghost possessing a Fate Pattern but no Fortune. He had learned that the Vengeful Ghost Peng Chun was gathering Fierce Ghosts and wandering souls, and had already sent one of his own men to infiltrate Peng Chun's force. He pledged himself to Fang Ming after being asked to assist in the coming campaign. 11

Before his death, Xie Jin had been a hunter and retained extensive familiarity with the mountain terrain around Green Mountain. His Life-Bound Qi carried red and yellow hues, which Fang Ming judged to indicate the potential of a military captain. 12 13

After entering Fang Ming's service, he selected a squad from among the men who submitted to the Earth God. Fang Ming transformed them into armed Yin Soldiers, outfitting them with leather armor and weapons. 11

Personality

Xie Jin is disciplined, direct, and strongly oriented toward military order. He immediately offered his service to Fang Ming, delivered intelligence clearly, and maintained a calm demeanor even when placed in charge of major forces. 11 162

He is also ruthless when suppressing enemies. After Peng Chun's death threw the ghost bandits into disorder, Xie Jin ordered all who remained standing after his count to be killed, rapidly pacifying the camp. 14

Despite his ambition, he remains deferential to Fang Ming's authority. He accepted orders, reported failures without excuse after Qingxu and Meng Mie escaped, and was entrusted with increasingly important commands. 24 98 162

Expansion of Fang Ming's Yin Soldiers

Fang Ming authorized Xie Jin to establish an additional fire division, recognizing him as the subordinate most suited to command a larger army. Xie Jin later received official military status and strict orders not to mobilize Yin Soldiers without authorization. 24 35

Campaigns Against Fierce Ghosts and Su Xia
