Although the Outworlder was furious, she held a winning hand—four twos and four aces, practically an unbeatable royal flush. She didn't think she could lose.
If the Dreamscape was affected, the one who died would be the National Teacher, not her.
She and Yun Ling'er shared one body, giving her an absolute advantage from birth. The National Teacher could neither act nor resist, and could only obediently submit.
The only survivor, Lightning, furrowed his brows. "Your Majesty, with Wind, Rain, and Thunder dead, how are we supposed to explain this to His Majesty come dawn?"
"The four of us were inseparable. If even one of us is missing, people will notice."
His words left the Outworlder stumped.
Right. How could she explain it?
But not to His Majesty. She needed to account for it to the daytime Yun Ling'er.
Though she and Yun Ling'er shared one body and two souls, Yun Ling'er knew nothing of her existence during the day, while she knew Yun Ling'er was there.
At night, Yun Ling'er suffered a brief memory lapse, leaving her mind blank.
The Outworlder had to fill in that blank, patch things up, and provide a reasonable explanation.
That blank was where the Outworlder could operate.
But Wind, Rain, and Thunder were truly dead. Their influence over the Dreamscape was even greater than Consort Shu's.
And they had vanished without a trace overnight.
No one could make three people disappear overnight—unless Yun Ling'er herself had done it.
She had to explain it. Otherwise, Yun Ling'er might become suspicious, even start to doubt herself.
She might wonder if something had gone wrong at night, and begin keeping watch and staying alert after dark.
Worst of all, Yun Ling'er might press Lightning for answers.
As Yun Ling'er's personal guard, Lightning was her devoted admirer.
