Chapter 511: Search
The ash-gray wasteland stretched to the end of sight, beneath an eternally lifeless, leaden-gray sky.
Thin, inert elemental dust hung in the air. From time to time, energy currents swept through the depths of the clouds like silent lightning, bringing brief flashes of ghastly white light.
Benjamin hovered in midair, calmly watching a figure fleeing in disarray in the distance.
That man had been the quickest to react and the most cunning among the twenty-man hunting squad. The moment Benjamin's first wave of attacks descended, he had decisively abandoned his companions and shot toward the horizon with some explosive secret technique.
"Your judgment was correct. Unfortunately..." Benjamin murmured, raising his right index finger.
A speck of dark golden light suddenly lit at his fingertip, solid as a needle.
Yet at the instant it left his finger, the slender needle of light "grew" into a colossal beam more than ten meters thick.
The beam precisely swallowed the distant figure, who was desperately changing direction in an attempt to use a spatial fold for cover.
Several hastily activated layers of shields burst out around the struck wizard, but the instant they came into contact with the beam, they were effortlessly ripped apart by its extremely concentrated energy.
His body stiffened for a moment. Then, like a wax figure cast into a furnace, he silently vaporized and vanished.
Together with the surrounding shield fragments and scattered elements, he turned into a wisp of green smoke that curled upward.
"By the average standards of hunting squads, these people were fairly strong."
Benjamin slowly lowered his hand and descended to the ground.
The earth beneath his feet had long been rendered unrecognizable. It was covered in energy-corroded craters of varying depths, glassy hollows melted by intense heat, and savage trenches torn open
