Background / History
Uncle Pang led one of the Nine Mountain Sect’s two major factions. His faction’s central inheritance was the Void Glimpse Spiritual Eye, contrasting with Senior Sister Zhang’s Talisman Path Foundation Establishment Method faction 122. His approach to the sect’s future was pragmatic: survive the coming chaos and secure resources before attempting to solve the Spiritual Energy Decline 131.
He sought to recruit Zheng Fa as his disciple, first offering Thousand Year Purple Bamboo Tears and attempting to draw Zheng Fa’s associates into his faction. Zheng Fa had already become the Sect Master’s disciple, however, so Pang left the gifts with him rather than withdraw them 121. When Zheng Fa later delivered the Talisman Path Foundation Establishment Method, Pang eased tensions by assigning his favored disciple Zhou Ganyuan to learn under Zheng Fa 127.
After Senior Sister Zhang disappeared in the Thunder Pool, Pang personally led a mixed expedition to search for her, investigate the Heavenly Tablet, and establish a new marketplace near the pool 161. He equipped Zheng Fa with detailed Thunder Pool records and supplied him with information despite worrying that Zheng Fa was pushing the Five Thunder Dharma Body too quickly 165 166.
During the Great Freedom Demonic Cult crisis, Pang convened Nascent Soul cultivators for support, but the invited allies abandoned him in battle. He held off enemy Nascent Soul cultivators for a day and night with the Five Dragon Heavenly Palace and talismans, injured Crimson Serpent Immortal through the Consecutive Talisman Art, and self-destructed his palace before Setting Sun Sword Immortal Han intervened 181 184 185.
Pang subsequently supported Zheng Fa’s reforms, taking charge of the Laboratory, helping revise Law Enforcement Pavilion regulations, and applying his organizational experience to sect projects 287 295. As a Supreme Elder, he later undertook a prolonged underworld survey in search of resources for the financially strained Nine Mountain Sect; after eight fruitless years, his exploration puppet discovered a Spirit Stone mine in the Weak Water River that was actively generating Spirit Stones 637.
Appearance
Uncle Pang is described as plump in earlier years, though the harsh underworld survey leaves him gaunt and dust-covered 637.
- His Void Glimpse Spiritual Eye manifests as silver light in his eyes 222 637.
- He is noted to have a large, round face when using Lingxin video communication 449.
- His appearance becomes visibly worn after extended exposure to the underworld’s yin wind 637.
Personality
Although marketplace disciples consider him stern and ruthless because of his association with the Discipline Hall, Zheng Fa finds that reputation heavily distorted: Pang is gentle, generous with spirit materials, and notably skilled at smiling 121. He is politically flexible, treating even an unimpressive Nascent Soul cultivator with conspicuous respect because future connections may benefit the Nine Mountain Sect 161.
Pang is deeply protective of his disciples and Zheng Fa. He monitors Zheng Fa’s breakthroughs, worries about his safety, and insists that Senior Sister Zhang protect Zheng Fa because the sect can recover as long as he survives 173 181 224. He also accepts personal blame and unpopularity when he considers them necessary for the sect’s survival 537.
His seriousness coexists with a playful, impulsive streak. He enthusiastically plays Great Dao Contends for Immortality with his disciples, seals his cultivation to Qi Refining while playing, and reads serialized storybooks with extreme emotional investment 165 450.
