Background / History
Jiang Yuyu is King Qi's son and the future inheritor of Qi King's Residence. His mother, a martial woman whom King Qi met in the jianghu, died young; King Qi never remarried and had limited time to discipline Jiang Yuyu and Jiang Keyin because of his duties. 44
King Qi considers Jiang Yuyu talented but irresponsible. He regularly criticizes his son's laziness, love of play, and habit of causing trouble, while Jiang Yuyu defends himself by calling it “conserving energy for a spectacular debut.” 44
Personality
Jiang Yuyu is carefree, mischievous, and shamelessly self-assured. He enjoys fine food, comfortable rooms, incense, and the freedom of avoiding marriage; he also boasts that his rare-book business supports half of Qi King's Residence. 47 50 88
He is easily provoked by Mu Zibai's affection for Wenren Lingmeng and rapid cultivation progress. Although he repeatedly denies being jealous, he becomes openly frustrated when Mu Zibai, Xiao E, and Wenren Lingmeng advance at speeds that undermine his confidence in his own talent. 47 89 113
Despite his frivolous behavior, Jiang Yuyu becomes focused and reliable in a crisis. When Wenren Qingyi disappears and South Sea City faces attacks, he prioritizes civilian safety, organizes investigations, anticipates infiltration, and orders his men not to investigate alone. 54 57
Abilities & Skills
Cultivation and Martial Combat
Jiang Yuyu is a Tiger Martial Realm cultivator whose progression was built through years of cultivation and practical sparring. 78 88
- Sparred repeatedly with Mu Zibai to improve his combat comprehension and push toward a breakthrough. 73 77
- Fought the Tiger Flood Dragon alongside Mu Zibai and Xiao E. 55
- Pretended to be unconscious after being thrown aside, then used a spear thrust to deliver the decisive blow against the Tiger Flood Dragon. 56
- Sustained more serious injuries than Mu Zibai in their bare-knuckle spar because he lacked Mu Zibai's body-tempering art. 51
Investigation and Command
Jiang Yuyu demonstrates sharp situational awareness while acting on behalf of Qi King's Residence during the South Sea crisis. 54 57
- Recognized that Wenren Qingyi's trail was suspiciously easy to follow and likely led into a trap. 55
- Sent Jiang Keyin and Wenren Lingmeng back to the residence for protection before searching for Qingyi with Mu Zibai. 54
- Ordered a curfew response during the demonic-beast and pirate assault. 57
- Identified ashes in the residences of Qingyi's guards as burned human remains, concluding that the original guards had likely been replaced before her abduction. 57
- Required investigation teams to travel in groups of at least three to prevent further infiltration losses. 57
Military Studies
Jiang Yuyu is notably more capable than Mu Zibai in the Imperial College's military coursework. 94 95
- Offered to teach Mu Zibai military strategy for the annual examination. 94
- Participated actively in class and gave insights praised by Instructor Qiu. 95
- Suggested finding prior Way of War examination papers to help Mu Zibai prepare. 95
Items
- Rare illustrated books — Carries and sells controversial illustrated volumes at a large markup; he once tried to trade one to Mu Zibai for a technique to defeat Dragon People. 46 47
- All-Purpose Great Tonic Soup — Obtained ingredients for Mu Zibai and drank the soup with him, finding that it strengthened the body but had limited value at his then-current stage. 50
- Stalactite Spirit Fluid — Received a bottle from Mu Zibai to support his cultivation; he initially worried it might cause the same problems as Mu Zibai's failed alchemy. 117
Relationships
- King Qi — Father and ruler of Qi King's Residence. King Qi worries that Jiang Yuyu's laziness and mischief will leave him unprepared to inherit the title. 44 47
- Jiang Keyin — Younger sister. He is protective of her, carries her during the climb up South Platform Mountain, and readily accepts money from her when his own purse is empty. 51 98
- Mu Zibai — Friend, sparring partner, and frequent target of Jiang Yuyu's envy. They assist one another during the South Sea crisis, share rooms on several occasions, and support each other's studies and cultivation. 55 71 94 117
- Yang Mingyue — An older childhood acquaintance he calls “Big Sister Mingyue.” He fears her because she repeatedly beat him when they were younger and remains intimidated by her strength. 96
- Xia Ruqing — Respects and thanks him for intervening against the White King during the South Sea conflict. 65
- Yan Jin — Acquaintance at the Imperial College archives. Jiang Yuyu uses a rare illustrated collection to persuade Yan Jin to grant Mu Zibai access to Archive C. 95
Story Role / Major Arcs
South Sea Visit and Dragon Palace Crisis
Jiang Yuyu receives Mu Zibai's party at Qi King's Residence and acts as their host in South Sea City. His usual hospitality includes preparing guest rooms, arranging meals, and recommending the South Sea night view. 50
After Wenren Qingyi is abducted, he assumes responsibility for the guests' safety, searches with Mu Zibai, fights the Tiger Flood Dragon, and leaves to respond when demonic beasts and pirates attack the city. 54 56
He later investigates the compromised guards assigned to Qingyi, uncovering evidence that they had been killed and replaced by infiltrators. 57
Capital City and Imperial College
Jiang Yuyu travels to the Capital City with Mu Zibai's group and enters the Imperial College alongside him. Unlike Mu Zibai, he adapts easily to classes and military theory, but he also helps Mu Zibai obtain past examination papers through Yan Jin. 93 95
His friendship with Mu Zibai becomes increasingly competitive after Mu Zibai reaches the Tiger Martial Realm soon after Jiang Yuyu's own breakthrough. Jiang Yuyu's confidence is further shaken when Xiao E and Wenren Lingmeng rapidly reach comparable levels. 89 113
Renewed Resolve
After repeatedly comparing himself to Mu Zibai, Xiao E, and Wenren Lingmeng, Jiang Yuyu decides he can no longer treat cultivation casually. Mu Zibai's gift of Stalactite Spirit Fluid gives him renewed motivation to train seriously. 113 117
