Background / History

Moroi was part of a three-man Kumogakure ambush unit with Ramii and Dodai. Their operation targeted Uchiha Setsuna’s squad in the Land of Hot Water, intending to kill Setsuna and ensure the Two-Tails Jinchūriki could destroy the Uchiha garrison in the Valley of Hell 9 13.

Ramii assigned Moroi to pursue Uchiha Ci and Uchiha Seiichiro, prevent them from transmitting intelligence, and return afterward to establish a barrier against Setsuna 13. Moroi separated Ci from Seiichiro with a death-match barrier, beginning a prolonged duel in the ruins 13 14.

Although initially caught off guard by Ci’s thread-controlled weapons and Fire Style combination attacks, Moroi survived by sealing the flames and restraining Ci with sealing techniques 15. He later used a restricted Kumogakure fuinjutsu to neutralize most of Ci’s Explosive Tags, inadvertently provoking Ci into awakening his one-tomoe Sharingan 20.

Dodai ultimately sacrificed Moroi’s position during the battle, dropping both Moroi and Ci—still within the barrier—into a volcanic boiling-water lake 22 23. Trapped, overheated, and nearly out of chakra, Moroi attacked Ci with Lightning Kill Bind; the technique backfired in the conductive water, and Moroi fell into the lake and died 23.

Personality

Moroi begins the operation cautious but confident in the ambush team’s superiority. He worries about leaving Setsuna’s battlefield unattended, yet follows Ramii’s order to eliminate Ci and Seiichiro quickly 13.

He repeatedly underestimates Ci as an unawakened Genin, treating his victory as certain despite Ci’s unconventional tactics 14 16. This confidence gives way to fear when Ci reveals that his body is covered in Explosive Tags, and later to rage after Dodai abandons him inside the volcanic trap 16 23.

Moroi becomes increasingly impulsive as the fight drains him. Ci exploits this anger by provoking him into wasting his last chakra on Lightning Kill Bind in an environment where the water amplifies the technique’s danger 23.

Moroi waits with Ramii and Dodai at a mountain pass to ambush Setsuna’s Uchiha squad. The group is confident that an elite Jōnin, a Jōnin, and a Special Jōnin can eliminate the aging Uchiha elder 9.

Death-Match Barrier Duel

Moroi isolates Ci inside a barrier and attempts to kill him quickly. Ci counters with overwhelming quantities of ninja tools, thread manipulation, Dragon Fire Technique, and Phoenix Sage Fire, forcing Moroi to reveal his sealing arsenal 14 15.

Explosive Tag Standoff

After restraining Ci with Lightning Kill Bind, Moroi believes the duel is over. Ci reveals that he is wearing densely packed Explosive Tags, terrifying Moroi and forcing Ramii to authorize use of the restricted fuinjutsu 16 19.

Volcanic Death

Dodai abandons Moroi in the barrier and throws the battlefield into a volcano. Moroi’s final Lightning Kill Bind fails in the boiling lake, causing him to fall into the water and die 22 23.
