Pale pink petals drifted down like snowflakes, carpeting the bluestone paths throughout the city.
A light breeze swept past, carrying a faint fragrance of flowers. Now and then, a few petals floated through the open lattice windows and into the hall.
They landed on the soft couch, on the writing desk, and on those two little furry heads.
"Wait for me!"
A clear child's voice rang out from the end of the corridor, like a string of silver bells scattered by the wind.
A little girl in a pale pink kimono ran ahead, her short white hair fluttering in the wind. A pair of furry ears stood upright on her head, bouncing with every step.
Her face was round and rosy, her large black eyes curved into crescents. She clutched a freshly snapped cherry blossom branch in her hand, running until she was out of breath.
"You can't catch me, can't catch me!"
The little boy running in front looked back and grinned.
He was half a head taller than the little girl. His silver-white hair was a little longer than his sister's, sticking up wildly like dandelion fluff.
The same furry ears stood upright on his head, and his golden eyes were full of smugness.
He wore a tiny black kimono with a thin red sash tied around his waist. As he ran, his hem fluttered like a little beast let loose.
"Sakura, you're too slow!"
Inuyasha stopped, turned around, planted his hands on his hips, and wore an expression that said, "I'm amazing."
"Inuyasha, you have to call me big sister!"
