The Training Ground was in the rear, an open space enclosed by high walls.

Fine sand covered the ground, and several wooden stakes stood around the edges, their surfaces covered in saber marks and spear holes.

The morning wind blew in from the mountains, carrying a trace of chill, making the flags atop the walls snap and crackle.

Abihime stood in the center of the field, arms folded across her chest, her wings tucked behind her back and gleaming with a cold light under the sun.

Abihime did not even take up a weapon. Her arms were still folded across her chest, her chin slightly raised.

"Begin."

Inuyasha moved.

His speed was astonishing. His foot slammed into the sand, and his whole body shot toward Abihime like an arrow loosed from the string.

The short blade drew a silvery-white arc through the air, stabbing straight for Abihime's abdomen.

In previous battles, that strike would have been enough to make most demons suffer badly.

But Abihime did not even blink.

She merely turned her body slightly to the side.

Inuyasha's blade
