Hunyuan Daoist identifies his true form as Chaos Origin Qi: a primordial energy mass that evolved Xuanhuang Qi, Primordial Violet Qi, and other Spiritual Powers. He later merges the memories of Great God Pangu and Great God Xuanhuang, adopting the name Hunyuan and constructing a Law Altar within his Sea of Consciousness. 199 201

His reincarnated existence is unusually complex. The Hunyuan Daoist is primarily connected to True Person Ziyang's soul consciousness, but also contains Primordial Violet Qi, Kong Qiu, Hua Dou, and a portion of Pangu's Xuanhuang Qi. When his origin self appears in the Soul Pond, it explains that the Daoist is only temporarily residing in the physical body while the origin remains separate. 235

Following his return to the Mortal Realm in Kong Qiu's appearance, he teaches the Confucian Dao: a path centered on propriety, benevolence, virtue, and the cultivation of Vast Righteous Qi. He creates a turtle plate for preserving Confucian writings, but chooses not to establish a formal sect. 201
