Background / History
Su Shang came from Yaoqing to the Luofu in response to the Cloud Cavalry's call for combat training. She had begged her mother, Su Yi, for years to permit the trip, only to forget the Sword Heart Incantation at the Luofu checkpoint—the same principle Su Yi had repeatedly taught her during sword training. 16
She carries the renowned family sword Xuanyuan and has trained in the Great Void Sword Art since childhood. Her mother taught her that the heart is the foundation of martial arts: once one's mind and spirit become formless, any object—grass, wood, stone, or bamboo—can serve as a sword. 16 17
On her first day in Luofu, Su Shang nearly fell from a bridge at the Starcruiser Sea Hub and landed on Bai Jun, who saved her. Ashamed of injuring him, she stubbornly insisted on taking responsibility and repaid him by buying Qiongshi Bird Skewers. She then asked him to help her find the Cloud Cavalry registration office. 16 17
Su Shang successfully joined the Cloud Cavalry soon afterward. Though she became more presentable in uniform, she remained unfamiliar with Luofu customs and often asked Bai Jun for explanations or help navigating the city. 18 28
While responding to an Outworlder disturbance, Su Shang lost Xuanyuan to the red-haired street performer Guinevere, who used the sword as a table leg during her act. Bai Jun refused to retrieve it in her place, urging Su Shang to recognize that a sword is only an external object and to face the matter herself. 35
Appearance
Su Shang is a young woman with chestnut-colored twin tails, clear eyes, and a lively appearance. After joining the Cloud Cavalry, she wears a neat uniform and carries the oversized Xuanyuan Sword. 28 35
- Chestnut twin-tail hairstyle. 35
- Usually carries the door-sized Xuanyuan Sword. 17 39
- Wears a Cloud Cavalry uniform after completing her enlistment. 28
- Has a strong physical presence despite her youthful, often clumsy demeanor. 39
Personality
Su Shang is energetic, sincere, and eager to help. She wants to become a great hero remembered by history and enthusiastically offers her aid even when Luofu's quiet patrol work leaves her without incidents to handle. 35 40
She is also naive and easily flustered. Her unfamiliarity with Luofu, frequent misuse of words, and difficulty with reading and writing create many misunderstandings. Rather than a lack of effort, her poor academic foundation stems from a childhood spent exhausted by early-morning martial training; she has nevertheless begun reading in her free time. 16 28 35
Despite becoming frightened when facing overwhelming danger, Su Shang does not give up easily. After Bai Jun thoroughly defeats her in training, she continues until exhaustion and accepts his assessment that her foundation is strong but she needs practical experience. 39 40 41
Abilities & Skills
Great Void Sword Art
Su Shang is a successor of the Great Void Sword Art, having trained under her mother, Su Yi, since childhood. Her foundation is considered strong for her age, though she lacks extensive real combat experience. 16 39 41
- Uses the massive Xuanyuan Sword in combat. 17 39
- Can execute Great Void Form, a powerful overhead strike performed with full force. 39
- Has passed the Cloud Cavalry assessment and is described as a genuine Cloud-Riding General. 41
- Her attacks possess notable power but initially lack precision. 39
- Can become overwhelmed by opponents far beyond her experience, such as the rampaging Golden Automaton. 40 41
Sword Heart Incantation
The Sword Heart Incantation is the martial principle taught to Su Shang by Su Yi. It teaches that the sword is not indispensable; mastery comes from refining the heart and spirit until any material can become a weapon. 16 35
- Emphasizes that grass, wood, stone, and bamboo can all be swords. 16 35
- Su Shang forgot the incantation when entering Luofu, despite her mother's repeated instruction. 16
- Bai Jun invokes its principle when encouraging her to reclaim Xuanyuan without depending on the weapon itself. 35
Physical Training
Su Shang maintains a demanding early-morning training routine learned from her mother and regularly invites Bai Jun to spar. 39 46
- Warms up quickly and reaches peak condition after a short session. 39
- Endures repeated defeats during sparring but continues fighting until physically spent. 39
- Bai Jun believes she could eventually surpass him with enough practical experience. 40
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Xuanyuan Sword — Su Shang's enormous inherited sword and the famed weapon of Su Yi's family. Its origins are disputed, with stories linking it either to divine-arrow embers or Suiyang fire. 17

- Luofu Travel Guide — Carried during her arrival in Luofu. 16

- Su Yi — Her mother and childhood swordsmanship instructor. Su Yi trained Su Shang in the Great Void Sword Art and required her to learn the Sword Heart Incantation. 16 17
- Guinaifen — Her friend and street-performance partner. Su Shang gives Guinevere the Xianzhou name “Guinaifen,” and later participates in her chest-smashing-stone act. 36 37
- Master Gongshu — A Crafting Department master who encounters Su Shang when she volunteers to handle the Golden Automaton. 40 41
