Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan

Yu Xiaogang is a direct descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and the son of its sect leader, Yu Yuanzhen. Before awakening his martial soul, he had been regarded as the clan's prospective young sect leader; his mutated and weak martial soul instead made him a target of pity and disdain. He left the clan and did not return for decades. 90

He later returned with Tang San and Flender to request access to the clan's forbidden Thunderclap Canyon, hoping to find Immortal Herbs that could improve Tang San's strength and perhaps let him break through his own limitations. Yu Yuanzhen granted the request out of concern for his son, but the search found no Immortal Herbs. 90 91

Shrek Academy and Tang San

Flender brought Yu Xiaogang to Shrek Academy after Tang San and the other students returned badly injured from the Star Dou Great Forest. Yu Xiaogang focused immediately on Tang San's condition and was revealed as his teacher. 77

Upon learning that Xiao Wu was a Hundred-Thousand-Year Transformed Soul Beast, Yu Xiaogang initially recognized the value of the Soul Ring and Soul Bone she could produce. He also saw Tang San's potential as a means to validate his own theories, despite his cultivation being permanently stalled at Level 29. 77 78

He agreed to travel to Spirit City, ostensibly to seek Xiao Wu's rescue, but also to obtain the method for cultivating Tang San's Twin Martial Souls. Before departing, he left Flender a demanding training plan for the Shrek students. 78 79

Deal with Bibi Dong

Using his Elder Token, Yu Xiaogang entered the Papal Palace and met Pope Bibi Dong, his former lover. He asked for the cultivation method for Twin Martial Souls; Bibi Dong required that he and Tang San pledge allegiance to Martial Soul Hall in return. 80

Yu Xiaogang deceived Bibi Dong by professing that she was the only person he had loved, while privately intending to use the information to cultivate Tang San against Martial Soul Hall. Bibi Dong disclosed that Twin Martial Soul cultivation required focusing on one martial soul and strengthening the body through high-quality Soul Bones. 80 81

On his journey back to Shrek Academy, Yu Xiaogang was ambushed by highwaymen acting under Ji Xuan's influence. They stole his Elder Token and savings, then subjected him to severe abuse. Tournament and Spirit City Imprisonment

Yu Xiaogang continued directing Tang San's cultivation and approved attaching a Soul Ring to the Clear Sky Hammer, though he set a maximum limit of ten thousand years. Tang San subsequently exceeded this limit repeatedly, forcing Yu Xiaogang to question his theories. 110 111 113

During the Soul Master Competition, he took pride in Tang San's use of the Seven-in-One Soul Power Fusion Skill and the resulting Clear Sky Hammer Martial Soul Avatar, a technique based on Yu Xiaogang's deductions. 118

Bibi Dong later confronted him over his public closeness with Liu Erlong. When she threatened Liu Erlong's life, Yu Xiaogang agreed to remain in Spirit City; Liu Erlong left heartbroken after he told her the decision was voluntary. 121

After Ji Xuan defeated Bibi Dong and became Martial Soul Hall's new Pope, Yu Xiaogang attempted to enter the Papal Palace expecting Bibi Dong's protection.
