At the very center of this underground world stood a massive iron door. Behind it was a sturdy cell holding a dangerous demon.
The sentinels of the Watchers kept a vigilant eye on the prisoner beyond the cell door. Each of them had been told that if the imprisoned demon escaped, the world would face its end.
Fortunately, that demon had shown no sign of activity for thousands upon thousands of years. Only their leader, Maiev, occasionally subjected him to brutal torture.
Illidan was bound to a wooden rack, his limbs stretched out so that his entire body formed the shape of a "big" character.
Maiev Shadowsong held a whip and lashed it viciously across Illidan's body. Gritting her teeth, she said, "Demon, feel my wrath. Even ten thousand years of imprisonment cannot erase my anger."
Illidan's eyes were covered by a strip of cloth, so she could not see the demon's expression or know what he was thinking. After being whipped, Illidan neither resisted nor spoke, as though he were a wooden dummy.
Maiev became even more frustrated. The joy of revenge was built upon an enemy's regret and wails. Yet no matter how she tortured Illidan, he showed no reaction at all.
Maiev lashed him several more times, nearly tearing apart Illidan's upper body. But the blind man did not make a sound, as if the person who had just been whipped was not him.
