There was a pavilion in the garden, and two men sat within it: Varian Wrynn, king of Stormwind City, and Regent Duke Bolvar Furtagen.
The Grand Duke did not know what special meaning lay behind the King summoning him to the royal garden today. He therefore adhered strictly to the proper conduct of a subject, remaining respectful yet distant, as though saying, "I will follow the King in all things."
"Grand Duke Furtagen, do you know the story of this pavilion?" Varian drank several cups of tea in silence, carefully setting the mood before finally speaking.
"This subject does not." Bolvar answered honestly. He had never studied the King's private life, much less the secrets of the royal garden.
"This was a place where the late king Llane, my father, often brought me to play." Varian let out a long sigh, revealing the subject of this meeting.
"So your majesty misses the late king. The palace also has portraits of His Majesty Llane in its collection; perhaps they may ease your majesty's longing somewhat." Bolvar had no idea why the king was telling him this. He could only respond cautiously and hope not to say anything wrong.
"Bolvar," Varian said, using a more intimate form of address, "how many children do you have?"
"I have three sons and two daughters!" Bolvar answered proudly.
"They are truly fortunate, able to remain by their father's side at any time, attending to his needs and serving him wholeheartedly. You must be proud of their filial devotion as well." Varian slowly shifted the subject toward Bolvar himself, his envy plainly visible.
"It is all thanks to your majesty. You have governed Stormwind City so well." Bolvar naturally flattered the king first.
Varian personally poured Bolvar another cup of tea,
