Resistance, Part Two

Half an hour later, the lords finally arrived with their respective troops.

They could have made it sooner, but to preserve their strength and for other reasons, they had deliberately slowed their advance.

They had expected to arrive in time to take advantage of the stalemate between the two sides. They hadn't imagined the battle would end so quickly.

Seeing the devastation scattered across the ground, the lords all drew in a sharp breath. They had gained a vivid sense of the Gannan Province garrison's fighting strength.

Forty-five minutes later, Earl Richard and Earl House, who had gone to wipe out the rebels, arrived as well.

They, too, looked astonished at the demon corpses littering the ground.

But both men were young and hot-blooded. Their surprise soon gave way to disdain.

Earl House muttered in a tone tinged with jealousy, "They only wiped out a ragtag army of demons. What's there to be proud of?"

His voice wasn't loud, but many nobles still heard him.

Aside from lamenting that he was all ambition and no ability, they also began to feel sorry for the family behind him.

Hamilton pretended not to hear. Wilson's expression turned cold, and he gave a snort. "Next time we encounter a demon army, you can be the vanguard."

Unfazed, Earl House replied, "I'll do it, then. Demons are nothing but a rabble."

He made it sound easy, but inside, he was starting to have doubts.

He regretted letting his jealousy of the other man's impressive record make him say something so discourteous.

But the words had already left his mouth. There was no taking them back.

Seeing his rival get himself into trouble, Earl Richard secretly rejoiced. That's what you get for running your mouth.

Hamilton couldn't be bothered with their scheming. He glanced at
