Awakening

Martial Souls are awakened by children at the age of six. Awakening as a Soul Master is regarded as a major turning point for both the individual and their family, bringing potential social advancement and access to specialized Soul Master education 1.

The location and conditions of an awakening can affect its outcome. At the Spirit Pagoda's highest awakening site, which is reserved for noble descendants and families with Titled Douluo-level backing, an awakening may improve Martial Soul quality and greatly increase Soul Power 1.

A Martial Soul is considered the foundation, dignity, and pride of a Soul Master; oaths sworn upon it are treated as especially binding 26.

Forms and Classification

Physical Forms

Martial Souls manifest in numerous forms, including beasts, plants, weapons, elemental entities, and body-based abilities.

Soul Master Paths

A Martial Soul's nature and Soul Skills influence its wielder's combat specialization.

• Assault-type Battle Soul Masters — favor direct close-range combat and physical force 74 356.
• Agility Attack-type Battle Soul Masters — rely on speed, mobility, and rapid strikes 36 74.
• Control System Battle Soul Masters — restrain, weaken, delay, or dictate the battlefield rather than relying solely on damage 43 74.
• Auxiliary and support-type Soul Masters — provide enhancement, recovery, or other assistance; weakening abilities are normally associated with this category 25.
• Food-type support Soul Masters — can provide recovery support during demanding processes such as Battle Armor crafting 419.

A Martial Soul's expected path is not absolute. Luo Ze's Qilin is a Beast Martial Soul, yet its Soul Skills are control-oriented, a combination considered highly abnormal by other Soul Masters 15 43.

Soul Power, Soul Rings, and Soul Skills

A Soul Master requires at least one Soul Ring to be recognized as a true Soul Master 26. Soul Rings grant Soul Skills, while additional rings correspond to advancement through higher Soul Master realms.

Soul Ring color reflects age and quality. A Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring emits a red aura that cannot be convincingly imitated, while a Ten Thousand Year Soul Ring is black 2 308.

A Hundred Thousand Year Soul Ring can possess two Soul Skills rather than one. Luo Ze's first ring grants both the weakening component of Kirin Pressure and its stunning effect 25.

Soul Spirits can provide Soul Rings and may grant further abilities. Luo Ze's Kunpeng Soul Spirit emerges from his sixth Soul Ring and gives him two additional Soul Skills 473.

Bloodline and Suppression

Martial Souls can possess bloodline quality. Among Beast Martial Souls, a superior bloodline can pressure or suppress an inferior one, causing fear, weakening, or loss of control 2 46.

Luo Ze's Qilin Martial Soul demonstrates this principle repeatedly:

• It suppresses Beast Martial Souls regardless of ordinary level differences, including opponents with dragon, tiger, snake, and bird-related Martial Souls 28 46 308 356.
• Its aura causes Dragon Abyss, Frost Giant Dragon, Black Swan, and White Tiger Martial Souls to react with fear or instability 2 23 308 356.
• After Luo Ze breaks his second seal, its pressure expands beyond Beast Martial Souls, briefly affecting plant and weapon Martial Souls as well 71.
• The effects of Kirin Pressure eventually ignore Martial Soul type altogether, allowing it to intimidate targets regardless of their Martial Soul's form or rarity 156.

Bloodline superiority is not an absolute rule among human Soul Masters. Cultivation can compensate for differences in Martial Soul quality, particularly when opponents possess a major advantage in Soul Power, Battle Armor, or combat experience 365.

Attributes

Martial Souls may carry elemental or special attributes that shape their abilities and matchups.

• Divine attribute — Luo Ze's Qilin possesses Divine as its primary attribute. It is especially effective against Dark-attributed abilities and can disperse attacks formed from dark energy 161 308.
• Time attribute — Luo Ze's Qilin possesses temporal adaptability and can produce time-based control abilities despite this being atypical for a Qilin Martial Soul 108 356.
• Dark attribute — used by Martial Souls such as the Black Swan, Bone Dragon King, and Dark Dragon Dagger; Dark-attributed Martial Souls can strengthen one another when their users cooperate 74 75 308.
• Elemental attributes — Gu Yue's Martial Soul can control multiple elements, including ice, fire, earth, wind, light, space, dark, and time 49 249.

Evolution and Second Awakening

A Martial Soul can evolve after absorbing suitable energy, undergoing bloodline breakthroughs, or experiencing a second awakening.

Luo Ze's Qilin undergoes a qualitative transformation after he repeatedly separates and absorbs elemental and life energy: its golden scales become deep crimson, its aura gains sharpness, and its Divine attribute becomes denser 338.

Second awakening is a further evolution of a Martial Soul. It is most common among Body Martial Souls, though Plant and Beast Martial Souls may also undergo it at much lower success rates 406.

Failure carries severe consequences:

• Martial Soul backlash.
• Stagnation of cultivation.
• Potential inability to continue advancing normally 406.

The Qilin's potential second awakening is associated with evolution toward the legendary God-level Holy Radiance Kirin, though its historical wielders reportedly faced fatal strain because their Martial Souls evolved faster than they could withstand 363.

Martial Soul Fusion Skills

A Martial Soul Fusion Skill is produced when compatible Martial Souls and their users merge their Soul Power into a combined ability.

Luo Ze has demonstrated Fusion Skills with both Gu Yue and Tang Wulin:

• Luo Ze and Gu Yue — their golden Qilin and silver dragon fuse into a golden-silver manifestation capable of overwhelming the arena with temporal power 227.
• The Final Movement of the Chrono Dragon Scale — Luo Ze and Gu Yue freeze time to interrupt an opposing Fusion Skill before it can form 246.
• Luo Ze and Tang Wulin — their fusion combines the Qilin's time and Divine qualities with the Golden Dragon's violence and dominance 265.

Fusion Skills impose substantial Soul Power and Spiritual Power costs. Luo Ze becomes severely exhausted after leading a fusion with Tang Wulin 265.

Interaction with Equipment

Battle Armor complements a Martial Soul by amplifying a Soul Master's existing strengths.

• Head Battle Armor can maximize Spiritual Power, making it particularly valuable to control-oriented Soul Masters 285.
• Chest armor primarily improves defense, while arm and leg armor primarily enhance attack power and speed respectively 285.
• Battle Armor can help offset bloodline suppression and increase the speed or power of Soul Skill release 356.
• Soul bones, Battle Armor, mechas, Soul Skills, and combat techniques all become major deciding factors in higher-level battles 473.
